Like I can yell all of these things over and over til I’m blue in the face and it may not matter to some people—but I have so much empathy and concern for people turning away from something like this that can be so healing. Using escapism purely as a shield to avoid bad thoughts won’t help you process things. You’ll keep stuffing things down and fall into a cycle. Examining ugly things in a safe space, such as your head, or with friends who get it, however…that’s been the best (and most fun) way to process for me.

To me it’s a disturbing mental matryoshka. Layers and layers of fear and avoidance both in public and in private and inside your own brain. Thinking of fucked up little scenarios is how you plan and cope and strategize. There’s a scared horny ape in there that needs to process the horrors of living.

I think it’s sad that so many people now don’t even feel free from judgement inside their own heads. Like sometimes it’s not just fear of being shamed by others there are people who are legit terrified they will become monsters if they don’t carefully control their imaginations.

And I say think, but really it’s more about a feeling in the brain. Before widespread anti-ism most of us didn’t really purposefully think—“I’m gonna put these two together because it is naughty and makes pearl clutchers mad” We just started making up scenarios in our heads, which became fics.

I’m not an SPN fan but, as a further example—the actors who play Sam and Dean are not actually brothers. As the audience, logically, we know this. The actors are also not going to magically abandon their families to hook up with each other just because someone wrote a fanfic about it.

This is what we mean when we say it’s about the characters having “good chemistry”. We feel a magnetic pull between a character we live through vicariously and another that we find attractive in some way. But we are not the character. It’s a role to slip into. It’s playing pretend.

I feel like people need to understand that most of us who indulge in “problematic” media or fiction see the characters as actors in a play performing a role. We aren’t fussed about the taboos of relationship dynamics because the characters aren’t actually committing crimes.

The long and short of it is that my family members were the products of a long multi-generational chain of abuse, and after 30+ years of putting up with this I finally realized they were too broken or too stubborn to change for the better. I jumped ship so I wouldn’t be pulled down with them.

I also have a cute “game shark” themed case for my switch 2 games that’s designed to be used for SD cards as well, and I’ve been reflecting on things like the OoT remake and I think the switch 2 may end up being the last official console I own before I pivot over to Linux/PC entirely.

Case in point, I went looking out of curiosity for fallout fan merch and found a holotape SD card case. As of right now you can get the ENTIRETY of the fallout game franchise on a steam deck, so this would be a very cool way to keep a back-up card of those games.

The best way to keep your games forever is, ultimately, to be able to keep moving them from device to device—which means PC gaming. We’re fortunate (ish) right now to see the industry really focusing on handhelds and SDs are just today’s version of CDs or flash drives for portable computers.

Thinking about the issue of losing physical media when it comes to gaming—I really think the best solution (for now) is to start using SD/MicroSD cards + adapters and stop using devices that are strictly game consoles. Even backwards compatibility only gets you so far.

Re-evaluating my concerns about the art style/graphics for the OoT remake because I’m just now realizing that what they’re giving us is a current-gen interpretation of the concept art from the original game. I used to own the official game guide book w/ all the character illustrations. I forgot.

Hilariously I’ve been conditioned to prefer “masculine” scents not just for gender reasons, but also because people tend to use fruity or floral scents to “cover up” bad odors and so now I psychologically associate girly scents with toilet smells or body odor. They make me recoil a little now.
