Iterating a bit more 🟢 Easily walkable (≤15 min): 38 amenities (15%) 🟡 Just outside reach (15-30 min): 113 amenities (44%) 🔴 Too far to walk (>30 min): 64 amenities (25%) 113 amenities (from OSM) are tantalizingly close but just outside the 15-minute neighborhood

Walk Score gives this a 90/100. Their 15-minute walksheds look great! But I mapped the ACTUAL amenities (from OSM which I know are great & accurate). 87% of meaningful amenities in the area are outside that 15-minute zone. We're not measuring what matters.

Just mapped my neighborhood with ACTUAL sidewalk data. Even in one of SLC's "most walkable" areas, 87% of nearby amenities are outside a true 15-minute walk. That cluster of dots at 9th & 9th? Just out of reach. We're not building 15-minute neighborhoods, we're building 15-minute lies.

I went down a rabbit hole researching these vehicles recently because I remembered seeing one parked on Overtoom in #Amsterdam almost daily in the 1990s. I was always curious about them then but there was no WWW and #gopher / veronica didn’t offer up any information on them.

These specially modded #citroën CX “Tessier” were used to distribute French newspapers to European cities. They would leave Paris in the middle of the night and barrel up the Autoroute to Brussels and Amsterdam at high speed. You’d see them parked in Amsterdam during the day. flic.kr/p/3guPo

Yesterday was my last day at Ready. Learned a ton & made new friends in the process. I'm grateful for that! No career update right now - going to enjoy spending time with loved ones and reconnecting with mapping friends. And that '78 Rhodes is not going to fix itself :) Happy Holidays y'all!
