At least the tracking worked! The past 5, FIVE things I’ve had with tracking have just told me a combination of ‘no updates’, ‘tracking unavailable at this time’ or ‘out for delivery’. Evri are the worst, I swear their tracking doesn’t work at all.

2/2 however this was based upon Homer and not some possible alternative version. As you say though, there would have been many variations of the story so the version we have is purely random. Isn’t it wonderful though to imagine how different it might have been?

Well of course oral tradition continued, however it would have been based upon and grounded to Homer. Throughout the ages Homer has been revered as ‘protos didaskalos’, we have references to the use of ‘rhapsode’ in use when we look to Socrates (or more accurately, Plato).

Well dealing with these biases is expected within the classical studies.There is far more that we do not know than we do. The thing is, the Iliad that our translations are based upon is the only copy we have and so becomes the certainty. Anything prior is based upon educated guesswork.

2/2 I believe you may be confused by oral tradition which is how stories were conveyed during 8th C BCE when the Iliad is thought to have been composed. It would have been recited by a ‘Homer’ who travelled from place to place.

Not exactly, the translations are based upon one text. They vary in a few ways, some try to remain true to the iambic pentameter, others to the story, others to line by line translations and combinations & variations within. They are all based upon an original text though. 1/2

The thing I’m struggling with is that the law of averages states that at least a few reformers would have fact checked figures relating to immigrants and will know that their claims don’t add up, so why, other than practices aren’t they speaking up?

Definitely sounds like it is as intended. Cornflour would work to thicken it a little but it would be similar to the flour. Perhaps you could try some gelatin? Or possibly pectin? Not so much that it becomes solid.
