Every Day Should Be Earth Day!! The Ribbon Eel is a striking Eel found in the Indo-Pacific Ocean. About 51 inches long, they have high dorsal fins, flared nostrils used to sense movement, breathing through an open & closed mouth to pump water over their body. Diet of small fish, shellfish. The Ribbon Eel, or Moray Eel with its striking colors is known for its vibrant color changes and unique reproductive biology. It has a long slender body, high dorsal fins that run the length of the body, flared nostrils to sense movement and breathe with their mouth open in an open and close manner to pump water over their body. Start life as males and transform to females as they age with colors changing with their transformation. Found in Sandy burrows or along coral reefs they will be under the sand with only their head sticking up to hunt and ambush its prey. Diet includes small fish and shellfish. They swim in a slow undulating motion . Listed as least concerned that status is rapidly changing with the climate change. Lives 20 years in the wild. Does not adapt to aquarium conditions and usually only lives a month in captivity.

Large seabird of the Atlantic with long, pointed bill, wings, and tail. Adults bright white with cream-colored head and black wingtips. Takes several years to reach adult plumage; juveniles are all sooty-brown and slowly acquire more white as they mature. Nests in enormous colonies on cliffs in the North Atlantic. Spends most of its life at sea, although often fairly close to land, so they are often visible from shore or on whale watching boats. Dives torpedolike into the ocean for fish. Gathers in large feeding flocks, but sometimes solitary.

I finished “Monty” today — the male of the pair of Cooper’s hawks I watched this year. He is smaller than his mate (“Capulet”) and in adult plumage. He was a great dad: he built the nest and fed everyone! Coloured pencil on cotton paper. #BirdArt #Birds #SciArt
