Found this not-so-old picture of my older daughter after a yakiniku outing in Okinawa a while back. Surer, and cheaper, proof than a DNA test that she is in fact my daughter.

Teenaged girl covering her face with a damp cloth after eating yakiniku

Pardon me swooping in with a random reply but I feel the same way with my guitar lately, especially now that I'm just starting to learn it formally after thirty odd years of plunking around. Your comment is rather heartening though. Thanks 🙏

open.spotify.com/episode/2ECO...

Who's interviewing me? For what pub? Just two books? I can't... I get it down to like five books and then the coffee table becomes several stacks of more books... are they going to ask how many of them I've read? I'll die

Wu-Tang Clan could really do some damage in this genre. (Better than the 48 Laws of Power-type stuff that was briefly trending...)

Not my area of expertise but I'd think you could discuss, e.g., Saburo Kurusu, Richard Sorge, etc. in ways that aren't...entirely irrelevant. Sounds like an interesting class either way 🙏

It's been a while but one would think that nothing is more "like riding a bike" than riding a bike. Anyway, I fell off a bike on a hill near Zavelstein Castle and jammed my wrist. But also my daughter made cupcakes that look like pies, so I think today was a win overall.

This is correct. The government’s assault on Somalis and Somali Americans is perverse and wicked even for this gang

Was listening to a rather eclectic array of songs, from punk to French chanson to Somali traditional, while doing stuff around the house. My 17yo sings half a line of Justin Bieber while walking by me. Not even two seconds worth... Guess what's stuck in my head now.

Right. Isn't a story of "rage" or "anger" invoked right in the opening line (in many translations)? I'm among the least qualified to expound on The Iliad but it seems like simply...reading it could have been helpful. (Therein the problem, etc. I know...)

Read your thread. Sorry to hear you had to deal with that. Few things are more aggravating than an irrational customer more than taking advantage of the service he feels he's entitled to from someone trying to do a job. FWIW I get the after-the-fact over-thinking. Hope it gets better🙏

OMG yes! Or the story about the man going into town to meet someone and the drawing shows a creepy as hell grim reaper pointing at a floating truck. Doesn't sound like much to describe it, but damn I was hooked on those drawings

Right? I can't stop looking at them. I never lost that fascination. And what's interesting is that they're not just scary, e.g. "for the 80s" or something. They're just scary. Gammell didn’t have to go that hard in some children's lit, but I love that he did 😆

I want a do-over. Jurassic Park scared me as a kid, but not like the drawings by Stephen Gammell in Alvin Schwartz's Scary Stories series. The stories were creepy, sure--especially in elementary school. But the drawings were so disturbing I STILL think about them. I still have the books. #booksky

Her name was Anna Yagi. Just a few days ago there was a report on Rin Zamami, a woman who was stalked and had her life taken away by an ex-boyfriend. This week, this month has just been heartbreaking in terms of lives taken and of men getting away with so much harm.
