Experimental artist Oren Ambarchi’s Cooked may be an acquired taste, but inexperienced listeners will still enjoy it if they are willing to give the album the multiple listens it requires.

Drag City: making records since the second death of "Paul McCartney," also covered up. In it for the music, hoping you will use it. The power and the poverty, in one good right jab - what's left? Glas...

Charlemagne Palestine calls KKAARREENNIINNAA the "karaoke" version of his composition, which is hilarious, accurate, and a whole lot more evocative than he probably intended. Karenina (lower case) is a Palestine piece from 1997 for Indian harmonium and the composer's falsetto voice. It's a sort of raga filtered through 1960s-era minimalism (or vice versa?): prolonged organ tones accompanied by ritualistic vocals to mourn Palestine's deceased dog.

crys cole & Oren Ambarchi / Giuseppe Ielasi

The Ghosted trio haven't changed much over the course of three albums, turning out sleek, skeletal jazz with deft regularity. With the addition of Swedish multi-instrumentalist Christer Bothen, guitarist Oren Ambarchi, bassist Johan Berthling and drummer Andreas Werliin deepen their groove while expanding their reach. Thanks to the addition of Bothen's bluesy bass clarinet and earthy donso n'goni, the Ghosted trio comes alive but stays haunted. The post Christer Bothen/Oren Ambarchi/Johan Berthling/Andreas Werliin :: Serpentine first appeared on Aquarium Drunkard.
