Can't remember the last time I chose to listen to Joy Division. Loved them as a teen, had this Here Are The Young Men poster on my bedroom wall, but then I just became done with them as the myth machine went into overdrive, sold my vinyl. Listening to Closer again now is a weird experience...

The Joy Division poster I had on my bedroom wall. The four band members are standing on the pavement at a street corner, leaning against a particularly flimsy looking wire mesh barrier, a vert 70s-looking car in the background. L-R Stephen Morris (nearest camera), Peter Hook, Ian Curtis, Bernard Sumner. The photograph is black & white and framed with a black border, at the top is the band name, underneath is the quote "Here Are The Young Men".

Abstract acrylic painting, predominantly in sky blue & pink, with darker blue circular shapes, some white, and smaller circular red dots, all connected by the same coloured wobbly lines, with an irregular thin black line border. Kind of!

Just noticed this across the room & it's weirding me out a bit tbh...

The inner sleeve of Donald Byrd's Places And Spaces leaning up against two piles of CDs on my floor. It features a large b&w photo of Byrd's smiling, disembodied head, a bit like those cut out masks. I have inadvertently left it upside down to add further to the slightly unsettling vibe 😁

I'm really craving dark chocolate digestives. Not enough to go out to buy some, but enough that if I had a pack in the cupboard, I would happily demolish the lot. And that, my friends, is why I'm not allowed dark chocolate digestives.

2026 #TalksyReads 📚 17 #BookSky Malgorzata Lebda: Voracious (2023) A beautiful & brutal dreamlike debut novel; lyrical vignettes of family life within a small farming community become an existential exploration of life, death and humanity's relationship with nature.

There is a quote from Olga Tojarczuk on the cover that reads, "Life and death are beautifully balanced in Lebda's lyrical novel."

There's a lot in my old fanzine Earzone that makes me cringe but there's still the odd section, like this from a gig review in 1993, that restores my faith in my younger self 😁 #Cardiacs

A section from a gig review of Cardiacs at New Cross Venue in my old fanzine Earzone:
They have a grand, expansive, powerful sound which swells up with joyous, celebratory emotion, full of manic complexed twists and odd time signatures, whilst all the time huge fans shower confetti all around and Tim Smith commands the stage like the utter star he undoubtedly is. But this can only give you the smallest indication of Cardiacs' epic performance - live they are truly an event not to be missed, an experience that words just cannot describe. If you've yet to discover them then you must do so at the earliest opportunity....Cardiacs are still the best live band in the country.
