Actually I don't think many books could be replaced by ai, because most books have a significant amount of humanity about them. AI is shite because they pretend to have humanity in them but are just an algorithmic shit-shoot of words. Bad books are always better than boring maths

Wayve robotaxis added to Uber app and will have human in front ready to take over if needed – but only 15 cars licensed

At some point, maybe. Uber says it's not cheaper yet. At some point they will not have a safety driver in the UK, but not at the moment.

While I totally understand why you would buy and own a self-driving car. (You don't want to drive). I have zero understanding of the benefits to the user of getting a driverless taxi beyond novelty. I understand why the people owning the cars want you to, but that's not how business works.

The most impressive thing about the England Football Team is that supporters, who supposedly know a lot about football, forget everything about how football works the second they walk on the pitch.

I want my console to be able to play movies, this clearly means the ps6 won't. That can't be good, can it?

Orange Monkey @orangemonkey.bsky.social · 01/07/2026
Sometimes I buy discs and sometimes I don't. A pretty big reason why I picked up the PS5 was the disc player though which I know makes me a grandad, but yikes.

I'd imagine what they will do is say that you need to ID to set up and then wait to see how effective that is. Which people won't like and will lead to lots of "it doesn't work" headlines.

Orange Monkey @orangemonkey.bsky.social · 15/06/2026
A potential, if not complete, solution is that your phone sends an anonymous token to the app/site that says "this person is 16/18" using passkeys. But that would be too sensible and joined up so we'll have a million debates about digital ID until my bones turn to dust.

Screening tonight @ picturehouse @factliverpool.bsky.social, Soviet era folk horror, Viy, based on the Nikolai Gogol novella of the same name. A tale of the grotesque, it weaves together witchcraft, fear and forbidden desire to great effect.
A film still from Soviet era folk horror, Viy. Here, we find a young man in fear of his mortal soul, stalked by a doomed revenant woman.

Does Liverpool risk evicting its own identity?
Little things happen in a city all the time. And you never know if they're going to turn into something bigger. A gallery and arts complex closes, but is it part of something wider?

And from this day in 2014.
A two panel image. The top panel shows the scene from 'The Wicker Man ' (1973) where Sgt. Howie first glimpses what's waiting for him as he crests the ridge of the hill he's being led up, but Howie is now the red-headed kid from 'The Snowman' (1982). The bottom panel shows the islanders standing around the wicker man, but there's snow on the ground, they're all wearing bobble hats and scarves and the wicker man is now the snowman from 'The Snowman'.
