Republicans Super PAcs are spending a lot of money, but it's unlear they are spending that money in a useful way. @jonathanbernstein.bsky.social

I really enjoy PCU. Why? a. Jessica Walter is always great. b. I know what Jeremy Piven's hair plugs are supposed to be doing c. I went to a tony liberal arts college whose initials are literally PC. It's a mystery.

A ton of trades and FA signings happened in Nov. 2021. There was a big flurry at the Dec. 1 "deadline." There's no reason to expect it to be different this year.

And it's notable that he didn't get asked to specify his diagnosis of what went wrong when he talked to the press in August.

Different question. Are they actually going to tell Joe Espada he's out. Or are they just going to reverse-George Costanza it. I had expected a Friday news dump today.

Meyers is as good as gone from this list. Sousa and Trammell are also candidates to be non-tendered, but their low salaries mean there is little financial benefit to doing so.

So we can ask this question now. We haven't heard anything about the search for a new GM. What's up there?

Sometimes baseball analysis is really complicated. And sometimes it's just--the pitching was bad.

The Pitching Was Bad in the Wild Card Series, Just Like It Was All Season
The Wild Card Series showed both the lack of depth in the pitching staff and the fact that the team’s best pitchers are not stars. The result was lots of runs allowed.

My first year in grad school, I go to the bookstore to get books for my seminars. An undergraduate is at the checkout stand "Wow, how many courses are you taking?" Me [as smugly and joyously as possible]: Two.

I don't know how many innings Lambert can go, but in the ideal, it's him, Abreu, and Hader the rest of the way. I assume Lambert will start the 6th at this point. If he can get through that inning, it makes it easier to go to Abreu next.

This team has lacked pitching depth all season and it showed today. Earned runs given up by a bunch of guys you'd rather not pitch and you hop can make it through without too much damage. Didn't happen today.

I assume the goal here is a time through the order. But can go with AJB as long as he is effective. He's not limited. Puts more pressure in the 6th and 7th inning when Blubaugh usually pitches.

Proposition: the Astros would be better off starting Nick Allen at 2B; Altuve at DH; Yordan in LF at Daiken Park. That improves defense at 2B, and over the course of the season, Allen outhit our LF options (Trammell; Wade, etc.).

Okert being back and healthy would go a long way for the bullpen forward run the Astros will need to make.

I'd love to bring back 1986 Mike Scott to throw in these playoffs, but Hunter's our best option.
