CHART OF THE WEEK: NY’s 12th district is a lock for Democrats, but outside groups have already spent $41.2 million on the primary - the most of any House race so far, thanks to spending by the AI industry.

CHART OF THE WEEK: Outside groups have already spent more than $330M trying to sway '26 Senate races, with over 3 months still to go until Election Day. 86% of that money is concentrated in just 10 contests.

CHART OF THE WEEK: Half the states ban foreign money in ballot measure campaigns. Federal law only bans foreign contributions to candidates' campaigns because the Supreme Court has ruled ballot measures count as issue advocacy. The House passed a bill Monday to close the gap at the federal level.

#OTD in 2008 the Supreme Court struck down the ‘Millionaire’s Amendment’ in Davis v. FEC. The ruling found it unconstitutional to treat candidates differently based on how they fund their campaigns. 🏛️⚖️

CHART OF THE WEEK: Corporate lobbying hit $5.1B in 2025, up from $3.4B in 2017 during Trump's 1st term. Pharma led the surge, spending $452M last year, a 62% increase over 2017. Several other industries also grew lobbying budgets by more than $50M.

Acting AG Todd Blanche reclassified state-licensed medical marijuana from Schedule I to III. While not legalization, it eases rules and creates big tax breaks for industry players. We looked at who is spending on K Street to influence marijuana policy.

Maine Gov. Janet Mills dropped out of the Senate race Thursday, ending her primary race against fellow Democrat Graham Platner. Mills ended the first quarter of 2026 with just over a $1 million in his campaign account, compared to Platner's $2.7 million.
