I think my favorite (pictured in the gif) is the ability to select multiple @overturemaps.bsky.social layers and then have the plugin download them all at once. I'm pretty confident it's now the easiest way to get a bunch of Overture data for your area of interest.

Ideally in a way that doesn't DoS the API's, so I can just run it on a long running job and get the whole things and upload them to source.coop ;) And then CLI to point at a STAC-GeoParquet and treat it as a server (full CQL and other filters).

Oh, I love that stage! :) Looking... would you consider a CLI? That'll make it easier for me to pull into my current workflows (and also easier to contribute). The main CLI I want is for stac-geoparquet - point at a STAC API or Catalog, optionally filter, and generate stac-geoparquet locally.

Chris Holmes @opencholmes.bsky.social · 17/02/2025
...and then eventually one would likely emerge. But all of s2 or all of landsat shouldn't be _that_ big in stac-geoparquet. Like no more than 100 gigabytes, and likely much less. So we can have some different attempts at sorting / partitioning.
010
Chris Holmes @opencholmes.bsky.social · 17/02/2025
And I'd encourage not worrying too much about partitioning and sorting. Once it's in Parquet it's way better than behind the API, and then we can have different people experiment. I've been trying some stuff out in github.com/cholmes/geop.... I'd see some time with different partition approaches...

Cool. Yeah, direct pgstac export sounds great. Though do you think a complete crawl will dos an API? I've been half contemplating just doing that. Once it's done once and the data is in stac-geoparquet then no one else really needs to do it...

Chris Holmes @opencholmes.bsky.social · 17/02/2025
In general I'd like to make more of a push for stac-geoparquet, as I think the core is really good, especially with stacrs in the mix. But there needs to be more data, and maybe make it a bit less obscure - put up a website or something. I'm contemplating a qgis plugin too, could try stacrs for it.

Chris Holmes @opencholmes.bsky.social · 17/02/2025
Do you have a go to stac-geoparquet source for s2, landsat, etc? I always struggle to use Planetary Computer with its auth. I'm contemplating just putting some up on source.coop, but not sure if there's somewhere else? I guess ideally we'd get them onto Earth on AWS...
