Chris Holmes @opencholmes.bsky.social · 09/04/2025The first Cloud-Native Geospatial Conference is happening in three weeks! I'll be giving the opening keynote, and I'm working to make it one of my best talks ever. The agenda (2025-ut.cloudnativegeo.org#agenda) is incredible, but there's also going to be lots of space between the talks... 273
Chris Holmes @opencholmes.bsky.social · 20/02/2025I think my favorite (pictured in the gif) is the ability to select multiple @overturemaps.bsky.social layers and then have the plugin download them all at once. I'm pretty confident it's now the easiest way to get a bunch of Overture data for your area of interest. 100
Chris Holmes @opencholmes.bsky.social · 17/02/2025I'm incredibly pumped that we'll be launching 'phase 2' of the TGE initiative that lead to Fields of The World (fieldsofthe.world) and fiboa (github.com/fiboa). And I'd like to invite you to join us! See tgengine.org/tge-innovati... for the full post, and read on for some more information. 1103
Chris Holmes @opencholmes.bsky.social · 30/01/2025I'm updating the GeoParquet website with the latest tools and data. See new version at e2958fef.geoparquet-github-io.pages.dev and diff at github.com/geoparquet/g.... What am I missing? I added duckdb, kepler gl, felt, atlas, big query, overture. @kylebarron.dev - do you have a rust library now? 493
Chris Holmes @opencholmes.bsky.social · 29/01/2025Awesome, thanks for responding. Stream order would just be an attribute of the flowline? Yeah, makes sense to me to include that, and could filter it out when streaming. I was more wondering about all the tables, see attached. Like the ones with no geometry? And all all the geometry ones? 100
Chris Holmes @opencholmes.bsky.social · 29/01/2025Taylor Geospatial Engine just published a blog post I wrote about a demo we put together to show the potential of using a custom LLM interface to explore interoperable field boundary data. Check it out at tgengine.org/exploring-fi... 142
Chris Holmes @opencholmes.bsky.social · 15/01/2025@maxxen.bsky.social taught me how to use DuckDB's ST_Hilbert function properly, so I put together a post on how to use it, and to get GeoParquet output. Featuring Planet's basemaps and a month of PlanetScope footprints. Read at: cholmes.medium.com/using-duckdb... 0100
Chris Holmes @opencholmes.bsky.social · 05/12/2024My Overture/Source Coop/Cloud downloader QGIS plug-in is live! It lets you download a GeoParquet or GeoPackage for just your view port from hosted GeoParquet files. Check it out at plugins.qgis.org/plugins/qgis... and install it by searching for 'GeoParquet Downloader' in the QGIS plugin manager. 13610
Chris Holmes @opencholmes.bsky.social · 04/12/2024Yeah, and they go back 7+ years. Near daily imagery lets you get pretty close to cloudless imagery over quarterly or monthly cadences. 011
Chris Holmes @opencholmes.bsky.social · 04/12/2024Got this working with my (still unannounced except for here) QGIS plugin. Not as fast as Overture since the files themselves aren't spatially partitioned (yet), but a big improvement from the previous release, as it's GeoParquet and works! Cool to see it on Hugging Face. 2125
Chris Holmes @opencholmes.bsky.social · 02/12/2024Anybody up to test out my new QGIS plugin and confirm it works? I'm waiting for approval on plugins.qgis.org/plugins/qgis... but you can download and add as a zip from github.com/cholmes/qgis.... Enables download of the viewport of Overture, source.coop or any GeoParquet URL. 3296
