Very and like I get it— I read across demos all the time. My childhood faves are shounen manga. However, it’s always girls and women reaching and reading across the aisle. I would be in favor of getting rid of demos if men and boys did the same but it seems like they don’t know the difference —

I know some people may see this as a good thing but the scrubbing of demographics in favor of flattening the playing field would mean the inevitable death of shojo and Josei manga. If things with men and boys in mind and their tastes in storytelling becomes “default” or “neutral” …well…

Anyone who tells you they don’t like romance manga mean they don’t like Shoujo romances because I hardly ever hear a peep about the shonen ones. I have other indie manga colleagues who do shonen romance and the difference in reception between them and me is STAGGERING

It’s supposed to be the logo of the convention! It’s supposed to be a violet with a multi pointed star which is the NJ state flower and the star is the symbol for state capitols (the con is in Trenton NJ) !

Romance has historical precedent for being targeted as drivel for women for literal centuries at this point and yes— a lot of it can be poorly written as can any book be But calling it “boring” or “predictable” as a sweeping statement instead of being specific about which ones is what’s causing—
