Don’t think I’ve ever seen a serious argument for “lidless is safer” but the arguments are not nearly as binary as the “lidded is safer” advocates would have you believe. Eg public health arguments about discouraging cycling by pushing lids, and risk compensation, both by cyclists and by motorists.

The trouble with them defining terms to suit their own purposes is that others use a differing definition. You can define your terms for a contract, or a statute, but this is neither - a policy or manifesto pledge is political, not legal, so has to play by different rules.

Had it been a US airport it would be entirely believeable. A friend’s son always flies with his “emotional support dog” beside him - even flying to France with it. He doesn’t actually need the emotional support, but US airlines fall for it.

I can’t help thinking the Zionism vote did a lot more damage than Labour “pandering” to the Greens. Polanski’s decision to skip the vote to return to London did him no good, and may have harmed him. He needs to fix the entryism he has let in to his party.

I confidently predict that all this will do is cause fares to rise. The whole point of fares excl cabin bag is to list the lowest possible price, for marketing purposes. Will airlines actually offer their old no-bag fares as a reduction on the with-bag price? I doubt it.

Gifting your house and continuing to live in it is fraught with difficulty for IHT. You’d have to pay your kids market rent or the transfer would be voided for IHT. As I saw in a friend’s case, sometimes the result can be an unholy mess.

My last Eurostar to Paris nearly ended up as Eurostar to Brussels - the wrong platform was initially announced and it was minutes before departure that the train manager announced we were going to Brussels. I joined about 30 others who piled off and were escorted to the correct train!

We could go for the French system of “priorité à droite”. Mainly seen in urban areas, *all* traffic must give way at junctions to vehicles emerging on their right, major road or minor. Also found in some areas on faster interurban roads. It was disappearing but now coming back as traffic calming.

As a student on an InterRail camping holiday we were washed out of our tent at a camp site in Como. The couple in the next tent took pity on us and invited us to take shelter with them in their Morris Minor. Which is where I first heard the Stones’ “Gimme Shelter”. 😅
