IDEA: rehabilitation centers for the modern, digitally ravaged attention span They could feature activities like lectures, seminar-style discussions, and reading. They could be called colleges, or maybe universities.

The painting placed at center, in prized spot just above Helene Kröller-Müller's coffin, is "Four Sunflowers Gone to Seed," which Van Gogh painted in the summer of 1887 in Paris—one of earliest treatments of one of his most iconic subjects www.krollermuller.nl/en/collectio...

The cabinet of Jeremy Bentham’s “autoicon,” which was designed to display his taxidermied corpse. The cabinet—at University College London in an otherwise unremarkable hallway—reads “JEREMY BENTHAM” above the door, but inside, there is no Bentham corpse, only a series of posters of various UCL bigwigs.

I wonder how much it cost Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen to license this William Eggleston photo for a full-color, double-page spread, mentioning The Row only in microscopic type on the back corner, in today's Times

With Spanish fascists about to hand him over to French nazi collaborators, Walter Benjamin took his own life on 26 Sept 1940. I'd only had the vaguest idea of the circumstances of his death and memorialization when I took the kids to Portbou for a fun beach day in 2014. greg.org/archive/2014...
a 2014 photo of a large maroon painted metal sign in portbou spain with info on the four stops of the ruta walter benjamin. the philosopher's name is on top of the sign in white, a black and white photo portrait of him, with thick slightly rumpled hair, his eyes lost behind thick round glasses, and his hand resting pensively just under his bushy dark mustache, is next to a map of the little port town nestled in a tiny valley, which does not in any way indicate that the fourth stop, the actual benjamin memorial, is in a cemetery on top of a hill, not a simple stroll around the beach promenade. taken by greg.org

Parva II, 1974
Acrylic on woodFrom the object label:

Truitt's wood sculptures, meticulously painted with coats of highly saturated color, serve as a bridge between the expressive palette and transcendental concepts of the Abstract Expressionist artists who preceded her and the sequential geometric forms that characterize the Minimalism of her contem-poraries. Truitt painted and sanded her sculptures by hand to suffuse her work with personal memories and feelings. She explained her process as a struggle to "get the maximum meaning in the simplest possible form."So slenderSo squat

in the 10 yrs since I last combed through the FBI's National Stolen Art File, a 6ft Luc Tuymans painting jacked from a show in 1996 at young David Zwirner's new SoHo gallery has been added, along with a giant 1976 Ellsworth Kelly, and some more personal—and portable—works greg.org/archive/2026...
a black and white and grey painting of a polaroid of a tv screen, with the rounded edges of the tv tube along the bottom and right edges, of a picture of a padded altar, with a knee bench around the base, surrounded by slightly fussy fancy white chairs and a settee. this image of a sealing room of the salt lake city temple was broadcast on belgian tv where luc tuymans saw it, photographed the screen, and painted it. then this painting got stolen in nyc in 1996.

Ed Ruscha’s Industrial Strength Sleep (2007), Merino wool, cotton, and Trevira CS tapestry
From the museum label:

‘Featuring Ed Ruscha's characteristic graphic language against the backdrop of a dreamy, distorted image, Industrial Strength Sleep translates the artist's 1989 painting of the same name into the form of a textile.
Realized in collaboration with the FWM
Studio team during Ruscha's three-year residency, the work not only marks the artist's first weaving but also FWM's first foray into the display of tapestry… Label continued:

Ruscha based his painting on Edward
Weston's dramatic photographic series of clouds from the 1930s, which captured their oneiric, ephemeral qualities. Photography was also central to the development of the tapestry itself, as Ruscha manipulated low resolution images of the painting to produce the textile design utilized by the computerized looms at Flanders Tapestries in Belgium. As a tapestry resulting from a series of media transformations, Industrial Strength Sleep raises questions of clarity and obfuscation, with the lines and texture of the weaving standing in contrast to the sleek, airbrushed finish of Ruscha's painting.’Detail
