I don't know if history is going to repeat itself. However, I will note that the Gilded Age begat the Progressive Era. ... I will also note a new poll by the Associated Press that suggests the emergence of a new consensus in which Trump is becoming symbolic of our own 21st-century Gilded Age.

Not only "weak", but that bad things happen to people because they're not "good" enough. That poverty or illness is the result of being punished for moral failings. I've seen that (either unspoken or explicit) many times. Often as "America is rich because we are blessed by God".

When speaking of Europe getting along post-WW II, it is assumed that the writer is speaking of Western Europe, otherwise the question makes no sense. The Eastern Bloc were the pawns and buffer for the USSR, which was definitely an existential external threat.

As a guy, hearing the lyrics to "Fire Drills" by @dessadarling.bsky.social really hit like a lightning bolt. I was no longer satisfied just to know that I was safe to be around, I need to make sure all the spaces around me are ones where women can be their full selves.
