no one on espn’s marketing team seems to recall the Kevin Kline / Will Smith film WILD WILD WEST, in which a racist Kenneth Branagh operates a crawling killbot not dissimilar from what pat mcafee drives on way to the super bowl

Primarily defense. Employment, construction, coverage, bad faith, municipal, condo, professional liability. Some auto, trucking, premises liability. More rarely business disputes, some land use, very occasional appeals or administrative law.

If anyone knows a lawyer in the Boston area who might be looking for work, is willing to try litigation, and doesn’t mind the absolute lack of prestige and barely adequate compensation of what I do, please send them my way.

"Commonly, they disallow food from being sold in that spot, sometimes for decades, when the company vacates that store. The company may have opened another location a few miles away and wants customers to travel there; it most assuredly wants to prevent rival grocers from siphoning off shoppers."

This US city only has one supermarket for 45,000 people. New legislation seeks to fix that
Big grocery can use anti-competitive clauses to block other stores from entering a market. Rhode Island is the second state to ban that practice

but if there’s a recommendation I *would* make (I am still trying to not give advice), i’d say it’s to understand that however late one thinks it is, if there’s anyone else around, those people will likely make it later than one thinks.

having attended a school with PAINFULLY earnest (or candid) people, I am not recommending that people grow painfully candid (or earnest). there’s enough debate about what those two words mean—and if you think i’m wrong you’re kidding yourself.

nothing in life is a straight line, because no one exactly feels like they owe someone an answer as a matter of course. we’re steeped in that reality, and I expect that might be why we do it to ourselves, too.

I think (I’ve said before) that any big realization sports a half-life that sees its potency fall below a useful threshold in about two years. the first six months are nice. the next eighteen feel like a race to DO something about it. these aren’t conscious choices and fears; they’re not clear.

omniality @omniality.bsky.social · 28/08/2026
noticing one’s shortcomings and abscesses can leave one feeling stronger for the knowledge and stronger for the capacity to access that strength. I think that can sour when one ceases to investigate that capacity, because it’s growing just like a person grows (in good and shitty ways).

straight up: a measurable part of the trouble we will encounter over the next few years will come down to some variation of “I don’t know if I am safe if I speak up as regards this issue.” I absolutely do not give a shit if the safe places are the same as we remember; I only care that spaces exist.

You're going to think this is a reach but I think that trypophobia burrito is a good example of a kind of subtle dehumanization that's hiding inside of a lot of ragebait. The image is disgusting. It is bad to look at. Doesn't seem good to share. Why share it? The reason is that it is dehumanizing.

To be clear I do feel a sense of superiority over AI slop enjoyers, just like you do. But unlike you I have the presence of mind to recognize when someone online is trying to exploit my sense of superiority for clicks.

the nice thing about this method is that even if it leads you to make an error about the actual provenance of the image, in some truer sense, it will lead you to the right decision about how to treat the image epistemically.

honestly the best way to tell if an image online is fake is to introspect about whether looking at reinforces a sense of superiority over some group towards which you already feel contempt

the state roads up to niagara falls (265/266) are more monongahela-ey than I-70, i’d say, but it’s I-70 that has that sweeping bend to it (and is visible from hotels, if that’s still the criterion)

I would presume / guess that fashion would / has already come up with merkins that are just as good—if not better—than what’s grown (and grown, and grown) naturally.

listen: it cannot be for fashion. it can be for peer pressure or a need for a kind of belonging that looks like peer pressure (and I think there’s some of that in all sorts of art, including costuming / fashion), but it is an insufficiently versatile look for fashion. and is not broth-friendly.
