illustration of death carrying a soul away to the afterlife. black background, theatre light over a fallen soldier with an arrow on his groin and head; he lays limp on the floor, his eyes vacant of life. death appears softly from the black, hovering up as she carries the same soldier as if he was weightless. the soldier has an expression of shock as he notices the skeletal hand of death clutching his nude body.

gnomish settlements are reclusive; concealed by powerful illusory magics. there, the small denizens scheme and toil incessantly on ways to locate and return to their utopic homeland. any gnome may leave, but they must first undergo a ritual where all memories of home are erased from their minds.

Traditionally, Carverine engrave their tusks with biographical glyphs and runes, so that their bones may tell stories of who they were in life. In more cosmopolitan settings, however, tusk engraving often serves less ritualistic, more decorative purpose, akin to some human tattoos.

I'm an official D&D/MTG illustrator working on a game that's p much a love letter to everything I like about RPGs. and more: it's pay-what-you-like. get OMIOS URES for free if you want, I don't care. spread the word, play the game once with your group and I guarantee they will want a campaign. :)

When employing an item’s Skill Check for a NPC, replace the skill with the NPC’s Body, Mind or Magic. An NPC trying to break out of manacles uses Body instead of Physique.

Wake up babe, synopsis for OTTO NUMBER 9: a new adventure for OMIOS URES just dropped. As always, I'm having a lot of fun with the layout/illustration juxtapositions. Coming soon!
Page spread with a black and white illustration of a cablecart travelling up a wayline to an enormous tower with a bulbous rooftop in an enormous cavern. Text reads:

A NIGHT TO REMEMBER...

Welcome to Bugram Agar. The brightest star in the underground sky. One night here costs about as much as the average worker earns in a year, and this will soon be a night to remember.

A microcosm within a microcosm, Bugram Agar is the Karamouski crown jewel for game and opulence. The Hotel hosts the Opal Casino, thermal pools heated by fiends in captivity, a grand auditorium entertaining exclusive concerts and plays, a pleasure dungeon and, perhaps most importantly,

Utmost privacy.

The building perches alone on a reserved cliffside, away from all the buzz, low-lives and unexpected smells of the big city. A gilded cablecart, privately operated, fetches the richest of the rich to and from the nearest district of Portnova, way above the underground clouds, up into luxury nirvana. Please take your sick philter, enjoy the complimentary aphrodisiac and avoid looking down at the 300 meter tall fall.

Tonight, a great tragedy is set to take place. For the first time in centuries, a mythical, near-indestructible defense automaton named Otto Number 9 will be seen by the public eye, and more: it will be the centerpiece of Bugram Agar’s bi-annual, highly-anticipated Grand Auction.

But no one could predict the Machine would awaken from its thousand-year slumber.

It is now up to the Party to put a stop to Otto’s carnage, or simply make it out alive, all the while three tonnes of rogue metal rampage the carpeted halls of Bugram Agar.

zoomed out, full painting screenshot of the page spread from the book. text reads:

REST AND RECOVERY

Respite

After arduous combat or a harsh leg in their journey, characters may seek a spot to lay their heads down and take a few hours to recompose themselves. This period is known as Respite.

During Respite, characters recover 1d6 HP, 1d6 Spells and 1d6 Vigor for every 3 hours of rest. During this time, it is implied characters will quickly tend to any wounds, perform provisory repairs to damaged equipment and get whatever amount of rest they’re able to.

Long Rest

Characters recover all their lost HP, Spells and Vigor by resting for a day within a safe haven, such as a traveler’s outpost or a tavern. During this time, it is implied that characters will not only tend to their wounds, but also enjoy a hearty meal and catch up on proper sleep. While in a town or a city, Long Rest also implies that characters would take a few hours of their day to fix badly damaged equipment.

HP and Vigor can also be recuperated via healing supplies and magical means, such as potions and spells.

"The Archlich" For Jetpack7's 'Legendary Undead' I always wanted to paint a proper lich. I think I did liches justice with this one.
Illustration of a lich encased in ice, billowing wizard robes frozen in time. He stands upright, as if floating permanently within his icy sarcophagus. Beneath him, a frozen lake stretches towards the viewer. From within the depths we see skulls floating beneath the thick layer of ice, trapped forever. The image is painted in deep blues and grayish cyans, attributing a cold atmosphere.

Hi #PortfolioDay, I'm Matheus from Brazil! I've worked for Magic: the Gathering, Dungeons & Dragons, Age of Mythology: Retold, Draw Steel & more. On the looser end of the brushstroke, here's a selection of personal work that I really enjoy.
A sorceress astounded by her freshly sculpted homunculus. A single shaft of light illuminates her creation. Bounce lighting reflects upon the sorceress. The homunculus has a flaccid butt.

The maker's hands are covered in fresh clay. They are the only body parts of the sorceress that are directly lit. Faint, residual purple smoke wisps from her fingertips: the homunculus stands in an awkward pose, that of a creature freshly adjusting to its body.

The homunculus has thin limbs and a hefty torso, though it is faced against the viewer. The sorceress's workshop is littered in sculpting tools, brushes, an open tome of transmutation, ceramic bowls and a pitcher of dirty clay water in which lie a few of these tools. Clay shavings are scattered about the floor. A red, runic circle surrounds the humonculus.

In the dark background it is possible to catch a few failed prototypes on a shelf. Two Carverine (orc-like humanoids), a male and a female, ride alongside eachother, on top of war hippos. They hold each other's arms. With the other hand, the female orc displays a freshly decapitated head - the enemy king. While the male lifts his axe up in prideful show. Both orcs have red hair and pinkish-gray skin, similar to the hippos they ride upon. The carverine have long, elephant like tusks, and wear minimal bronze armor.A bottomless chasm, miles wide, takes up more than two thirds of the image. The distant horizon harbors a silent city. The sky a dark blue, it is moments before dawn. We stand on the precipice, observing a single lit candle, burning a green flame. A humble prayer to the Buried God.A giant cyclops. Slender, female. Her armor is golden bronze, made of large plates with shield-sized domes protusions, which help veer off attacks. She wears a golden diadem, golden earrings, and her single eye is bright blue. Her armor shines from the warm light that trickles into the large chamber, pouring in from an off-scene oculus. Her face partially in the dark, tall that she is, only illuminated partially by the bounce lighting of her armor. Her right arm adjusts her belt, while her left arm is lifted, underneath it; we see a shirtless servant on top of a tall staircase, tying the laces of her bracer. The staircase is built of beige stone. The bracer is almost the size of this person. By the cyclops' feet, we see two other servants donning her greaves. One of them holds the giant slab of bronze in place, while the other, behind the cyclops' calf, ties up the laces. The floor is a white marble tile, giving the entire scene a slight reflection.

Did you know a single greave of this Cyclops weighs around 150 kilos?

Behind the Princes Warrior, we see a 2 story tall greataxe. It is brightly illuminated by the single shaft of light that brightens the entire room. In fact, the entire scene is illuminated either by the natural light, or the bounce lighting of the cyclops' armor, giving the entire painting a warm look.

The chamber is large and tall, made of stone, to accomodate the Princess Warrior. A small brazier burns incense, permeating the room with a pleasant odor of cloves. Behind the Cyclops and her servants, three noble folk overlook her befitting from a balcony. The balcony sits at the height of the Cyclops' head. One woman smokes, the man in the middle lifts a goblet with a grin, and the leftmost woman looks simply bored. There's a glass pitcher hewn with gold half-filled with wine next to them.

Painting of a white owlin (chonky owl person) wearing a Lorehold outfit (red leather with golden motifs resembling topographical markings, which in turn makes it look like organic-looking linework, white cloth, her outfit dotted with pockets etc), flying over a ruined town, carrying an open scroll and archiving upon it magic data from the surroundings, in the form of glowing symbols. you into tabletop RPGs? :)
A 2-page spread of the Omios Ures RPG book. The pages have a slight old paper texture to them. On the left, we see a half-finished painting of a Bhek'Gaa: a lizard folk, standing on its two legs and wielding a long spear with an uneven shaft and an alien, wavy looking blade; a mixture of a hook and an axehead. Half of the lizard's body is still in pencils while the other half is rendered out. Above the lizard, in bold type, we see the word BHEK'GAA in an art nouveau-esque typeface, in deep greens. Light nouveau filigree frames the page.

On the right page, on the lower right corner, we see a sketch of a Bhek'gaa hatchling popping out of an egg. This sketch is from the POV of a parent; we see the parent's two reptilian hands reaching out to the hatchling in a warm gesture of welcome.

COMBAT
FAST AND LETHAL
YOUR LAST RESORT

Combat in Omios Ures is dangerous and deadly. Most characters have as much HP as two good swings from a sword. It is wise to always treat combat as the last resort in any given situation.

In most places, drawing a weapon is a serious public alarmance. Blades mean business. So, when people fight, they tend to do it bare handed. But when more serious scraps take place and weapons do get drawn – for motives good or bad – most creatures will prefer to live another day than fight to the death. Common enemies should, more often than not, attempt to flee or plead for mercy once they realize they’re going to die.

Here it is with text, the spread in the book. These are the first real pages of the book so they deserved something grandiose, mystic and transporting (and understated!) This idea took a couple months of throwing ideas at the wall, none of which seemed to stick until now. Quite happy with this.
