As someone who loves using an em-dash, its seizure by AI frustrates me to no end. Practicing good grammar just now makes you look like a robot - which is frankly quite damaging to writing as a craft generally.

Nigel Farage pocketed a £5 million Brexit reward. When he promised we would be better off, he clearly only meant himself. 10 years on, it's time to end the chaos and fix our broken relationship with Europe, starting by joining the single market.

The British people are sick of being let down by an endless merry-go-round of Prime Ministers while nothing really changes. This time must be different. It can’t just be about changing who’s in Number 10, it has to be about changing our broken politics so we can fix our country.

The new EHRC Code of Practice is not fit for purpose. It does not provide clear guidance or do enough to protect everyone from discrimination, and it is not compatible with longstanding British values. @EdDavey.LibDems.org.uk and @MarieCGoldman.bsky.social have written to Bridget Phillipson. ⬇️

This is very fun! I also did the American focused version and got broadly the same results. I would argue that I am generally centre-left economically, but I’m also classically liberal enough to trust free markets more than the average social democrat, so I get why I was put in the centre.

Listening to Labour MPs speaking about Starmer right now, he’s just done for. It doesn’t matter when he goes, unless there’s some sort of miracle, he can’t regain the authority he’s lost, he can’t lead his party, and therefore he can’t lead the party.

The live BBC News feed showing No10 is incredibly entertaining when they’re not playing audio from one of the main news shows. You just hear the camera people and journalists chatting, shouting questions to ministers, and then complimenting each other on how loud their voices are 😅

Through my vast knowledge of Catherine West (I've read her Wikipedia page) she's a genuinely interesting challenger. Former leader of Islington Council, started out as a caseworker for Lammy, outspoken on Hong Kong (with a masters in Chinese Studies from SOAS) and a staunch Remainer.

Lib Dems control more English councils than the Conservative Party, the Green Party and Reform UK. Not that you'd know this from yesterday's coverage. The media's lack of curiosity and imagination and its inability to explore beyond the populist noise is as depressing as it is boringly predictable.

This is incredibly funny because "Labour" and the Tories colluded to gerrymander Surrey to keep the Lib Dems out. They split Surrey into east and west, abolishing all the borough councils, and now *both* halves have emphatically elected the Lib Dems! election.news.sky.com/elections/en...

Which means that all of Surrey is now orange!!! After almost 50 years of Tory rule, both East and West Surrey will be LibDem. Honestly when I first joined the party back in 2021, I thought I'd see this in my lifetime, but not with five years, before I even graduate. I'm genuinely so happy.

Speaking of Hull, interesting to see the Labour leader there call for Starmer to go. Also fun to see her say the Lib Dems split the anti Reform vote, when the Lib Dems are the most popular anti Reform party in Hull - not Labour. Maybe her party are actually the vote splitters sometimes…

Green Party leader does need stronger boundaries, policies & processes to vet & reject antisemitic candidates than it had when selecting at pace in this cycle. He is also being portrayed using antisemitic tropes in the national press. The newspapers need their cartoonists & editors to recognise that
The rising Greens hope for significant gains - trying to capture several London boroughs from Labour. The rapid growth of the Greens comes with challenges of candidate vetting on the left - particularly over antisemitism - that have dogged Reform over racism on the right. Green Party leader Zack Polanski cites his own Jewish identity to insist on the compatibility of being pro-Palestinian and a fierce critic of Benjamin Netanyahu’s Israeli government, while challenging antisemitism against Jews in Britain. But his party lacked the processes to identify and keep out some candidates who failed to differentiate pro-Palestinian protest from antisemitic prejudice, so will need to set stronger boundaries beyond this electoral cycle.
