The Hellraiser game has some jaw-dropping visual design, though I wish it were more like Amnesia than Resident Evil. A highly derivative, half-baked combat system makes the gamey elements clash heavily with the IP's identity. postmode.org/hellraiser-r...

When I left IGN/GN, I vowed to try to give as much work to as many people fresh out of publications as possible during these cuts - but even for a healthy business, the demand/need now is impossible. The future is independent, smaller, & reader-supported. Support the coverage you want to see!

Games media cuts have felt unending for a while, but the mood feels especially grim among indie outlets with the latest wave of layoffs. More than ever, if the game industry values its media, it needs to support them. Buy some advertising, sponsor content, purchase subs. It makes a big difference.

It's good that sites like GameRant are writing breakout news stories drawn from my reporting, but given that Postmode.org is independent and ad-free, would it kill you to drop the original source as a backlink? Literally an ideal hyperlink spot right there. gamerant.com/monster-hunt...

My Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve review is up! Or as I like to call it: The Phantom Plane. I bounced off Ace Combat 7, but this hooked me immediately: pristine controls & jaw-dropping missions — it's a great entry point to Strangereal. postmode.org/ace-combat-8...

Sorry to get real on main, but after losing my hearing, I often end up in negative headspace ruts about my ability to do my job because events and in-person interviews are so much harder and more anxiety-inducing. With that in mind, it means a lot to me to be able to publish something like this!

I'm sorry to hear that! Yeah, I still struggle with the advocacy part too, even when asking people to move to my left or repeat things (sometimes it's multiple times, and I just want to give up). Accepting it as your new normal is rough. Timers are a great idea! - a good way to reset the energy.

Thank you! Defo it's that old quote about the invisible crown healthy people wear, which only the sick can see. You take everything for granted until you lose something. And it's hard to talk about publicly, out of fear of being passed over for it. Loving your work at XBOX Wire btw!

The best way I can explain it is that listening is now like an exercise for me, an intentional thing that flexes a muscle that can quickly get worn out. It's like learning how to breathe manually. So networking, events, in-person interviews... all Dark Souls shit. But I want to keep doing them!

Are there any other games-industry-related RSS blogs like this one for Thimbleweed Park 2? I know I'm missing a bunch. I grew up after the age of RSS (2010s algorithmic social media hell) and am only now learning how enjoyable it is to set up a feed of curated blogs that hit my email every so often.

I've played all the Silent Hill games; many of them have awkward or frustrating combat & stealth, but they're third-person. Townfall's first-person perspective makes it so much harder to avoid. First SH where I'm not super enthused about playing for more endings :(

The way this Townfall captures the iconography of 90s Britain and twists it into an otherworld is mesmerising. The guide dog charity boxes and BT telephone boxes- it's just so meticulous and immersive. But then you have to fight or hide, and the quality gulf hits you like a truck.

TGS is up there in my industry event rankings for sure. Far better organised than gamescom, easy to get your press pass, great press room and a dedicated press entrance. It has an equivalent to GC’s business zone too with the ICH, only problem is it’s much smaller. Too many apps on the show floor!
