achievements of something really costly in another art form are more likely to be immediately obvious. It’s hard for a poem to ‘look’ expensive like a play or a video game.

This then floods the market because anybody can write and publish literally anything in seconds, but also creates a sense that poetry is inherently cheap, which isn’t great if you are devoting significant time and care into trying to write really good work. Doubly so because the technical

Good thread! It’s something I’ve def thought about too and I think the unique challenge with poetry is that the barrier to entry is basically 0 cost compared to those other art forms. Even to make a bad play, video game, or painting, requires significant money, time and effort. So for poems

Genuinely do not want to be sanctimonious but the feeling of writing so far exceeds the feeling of publishing/“being a writer” that I can’t wrap my head around bypassing the former via AI. Don’t you want to wander through the day muttering syllables to yourself and laughing at the sun’s jokes etc?
