Russian propaganda thrives partly because Western intellectuals have long admired Russian culture uncritically, while criticism from Russia’s neighbors was dismissed as biased. Elif Batuman’s piece in @newyorker.com gives hope that this is finally changing.

Let’s leave “just peace” aside. A peace deal with Russia on Russian terms would be a doomed agreement from the start.
