It feels like so much of the conversation around Arsenal is coloured by a weird folk memory of the 0-0 at the Etihad. It’s now got to the stage where they can outshoot the champions at Anfield but be decried for their caution because of a Szobszlai screamer.

Excluding the actual football, best two moments of the match: 1. Arsenal fans sing “where’s your famous atmosphere” and Liverpool fans respond by booing Trent’s next touch. 2. Liverpool fans being too busy celebrating in our direction to realise the goal was disallowed.

You can say goal scoring is a problem for Arsenal, and it is, no question – evident throughout this season - and still acknowledge their keeper played a huge role in both games. They are far more clinical - that's the level we have to get to via the market and more this summer. Sore one tonight 😔

Arsenal 1-3 Paris Saint Germain - Deserve to win meter PSG overall just edged it in the tie but Arsenal can be proud of the way they played there. They were one of the best teams in Europe even injury depleted.

2 games against Bournemouth this season, two game-changing VAR inteventions, or lack of. Jarred Gillett VAR for one, ref for the other. Can't they mix it up a bit?

3am. What a night. Went mental when Martinelli scored. Would have been fine except I was deep in the Madrid end. They didn’t like it. They threw popcorn (lol), then someone tried to throttle me. Blimey. Talk about making it memorable. Get in.

What a night, what a performance from this far from 100% team, one of the great European nights at the Emirates. Declan Rice has produced two of the greatest free kicks you'll ever see at this level, and we 100% deserved that third goal too. Incredible. This team deserves so much love. #arsenal

Thought Arsenal were excellent across the board but (another) mention for Myles Lewis-Skelly, who put in an unbelievably mature, impactful performance against one of the great European sides - in a position he's still learning. We are so lucky to have him. Another Hale End gem.

Once again, contrast the level of violence in these Everton challenges that aren't being booked with how soft the call against Myles Lewis-Skelly was that gave Everton a penalty. Zero consistency. Zero logic.

No, no, there’s definitely room in the calendar for a third international tournament, an expanded Champions League, and an expanded Club World Cup. There will be no consequences to this decision.

Honestly just does my head in. Serious foul play is one of the few flawless and totally acceptable ways to use VAR and they just don’t bother. Player safety a total non issue for PGMOL but trivial nonsense is fussed over endlessly. Really badly just want Webb to go.

18 years old. Yellow *before* debut as 10-man LB vs City, "who the fuck are you?", UCL debut, default starter, star turn, bullshit Oliver red, racism + nonsense, City goal + celebration, justified red, settling in, England call-up/start/goal, Real Madrid soon. ~6 months in the life of MLS.

It’s been a tiring season, full of weirdness. We missed White for four months, Saka for four, Ode for a dozen games, Merino at the start when he was learning the team, Kai for what will be 15 games and cups. We are in 2nd, 10 clear of 5th, and in the CL QF. It’s one hell of a job by MA, the squad.

Far from a classic, and there's more in-depth analysis to come on the blog and the pod, but for now it's just good win against a team and club as thoroughly unpleasant as Chelsea. A bigger bunch of whining, moaning, snide babies you'll never meet. A collection of weeping pricks. Well done Arsenal.

Good luck to those of you pretending to be angry about our best player on the day celebrating a goal with zero chance to restart because United spent the next 3 minutes making subs. I will not be joining in, but enjoy wasting your energy on something that meant nothing.

PGMOL were publicly humiliated over that Wolves red. You don’t think they were going to miss an opportunity like today surely? Couldn’t wait to get the review in. They even checked a nothing Merino foul in the first half.

I can absolutely accept that was a red card (it was). But you cannot have the head of PGMOL saying VAR cannot interfere in these decisions for it to actually happen five days later. That’s just not serious. It’s a chaotic organisation not fit for its purpose.

The head of PGMOL was on Sky Sports five days ago. Five days. He said Lewis-Skelly’s wrongful red card at Wolves COULD NOT be overturned because VAR ‘does not want to re referee the game.’ So why has this policy been totally 180d within five days?

Arsenal have been fined £65,000 for nine of their players surrounding Michael Oliver after Myles Lewis-Skelly’s sending off at Wolves. This is more than 3 times above the standard fine for Premier League clubs. The regulatory commission blamed the long time spent protesting & forceful protests

The thing with Gary Neville that has been abundantly clear for a long time is that he’s a busy guy and he just doesn’t watch football anymore. The only games he watches are the ones he works on, which is why he transitioned to lazy, narrative based analysis. He should hire a researcher.

It's great when individuals who work for broadcasting outlets that have shows like 'Ref Watch' and who focus so, so much of their match coverage on refereeing decisions start wondering why there is so much focus on referees and conclude that it is because of Mikel Arteta.

Coote did some stupid shit and, as punishment, lost his job publicly. That should have been an end to it. Watching PGMOL and the media use his sexuality and mental health issues to distract from criticism for a decision in a football match is disgusting. That's what the 'narrative' should be, here.

It's taken two days, and one statement from PGMOL for the Telegraph to go from calling Oliver's decision 'the most controversial red card of the season' to accusing Arsenal fans of dealing in conspiracy theories. The article then backs up everything Arsenal fans claim.
Ex-referee’s scandal fuels wild Oliver conspiracies
The Daily Telegraph28 Jan 2025By Ben Rumsby

Flashpoint: Arsenal’s Myles Lewis-skelly pleads with referee Michael Oliver after controversially being shown a red card against Wolves on Saturday
Red-card controversies are fuelling online conspiracy theories about Michael Oliver’s refereeing of Arsenal games.

Oliver’s decision to send off Myles Lewis-skelly in Arsenal’s 1-0 Premier League win at Wolves prompted a pile-on culminating in death threats and sickening abuse towards the official and his family.

But it has also led to one of cyberspace’s most active set of fans airing their grievances about other decisions by Oliver to have gone against Arsenal, amid data showing he has brandished more cards against them than any other team.

It comes at a time of diminishing faith in officials following the David Coote scandal during which verbal abuse of former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp emerged, as well as questionable text messages about bookings before a match.
