i was in line at the pharmacy today and watched a single-digit kid with glitter in his hair playing a phone game where he taps rapidly so a 3d model of a ninja thrashes around on a structure to say YOU WIN +5 GEMS and thought "yeah no that's about as valuable as all that bullshit 90s kids yearn for"

12. I heard 7 and 10 were the Best Games of All Time (cap) so i picked up the first one i saw at a game store (a metal tin collector's edition for like $15 USD - red flag much?) and i haven't beaten it to this day because i could spend hours on it making progress and feeling like nothing has changed

RTA in Japan, a Japanese speedrunning event similar to AGDQ etc. has a list of situations that result in disqualification Among these are rules like no sexual content or adults only rated games but then a blanket ban for any Harry Potter games Source rtain.jp/submission-g... Alt text within image

screenshot of japanese text, rough translation shows this is a list of cases where your speedrun will be disqualified including: playing adult only rated games by the ESRB or CERO ratings boards, the manufacturer disallows streaming of the game, romhacks are not allowed, harry potter games are not allowed, videos with errors or missing content will be disqualified, likewise for videos that cannot be played, or evidence is given that you're not the one playing it.

send this to your artist friends who are stuck on Twitter and are having trouble branching out

edit of the "Look Man He Helped Me Through a Very Tough Time" meme

The guy on the left representing X/Twitter is yelling "I LOVE GRADUALLY ENSHITTIFYING MYSELF WITH A SIDE OF CSAM"

the guy next to him, representing "artist (totally not stockholmed at all)" is telling a concerned person on the right with a cap on "look man it's the only website where I have reach, the changes aren't that bad you just gotta respect it."

the reason the world is fucked is because no one can tell the difference between the type of programmed AI used in robots and generative AI garbage. I didn't burn down a forest or put a town in a drought to make sage. i did those things -while- making sage but thats unrelated.

the two outfits for men

A photo of a dog peeking out of a car window. The placement of the dog and the person taking the photo — where the lower half of the person's outfit is reflecting off the car door — makes it look like the dog is wearing a button-up shirt and tan pants.

its really nice seeing the new GitS being exactly just the manga but translated perfectly to animation, to make it clear exactly how the rest were not, and instead their own thing with looser interpretations. many assume this means "inferior" but really it's just a separate vibe entirely

I think the funniest part of the broadly misinformed GitS discourse going on at the moment is the erasure of any entry between specifically the first Oshii film and this new TV show. Some people didn't grow up with Laughing Man as the avatar of 30% of guys online and it shows

"who would win in a fight!!!!!!" debaters are never willing to humor the interesting narrative questions like "what if Goku had really bad stomach problems and had to shit or something," the way Toriyama himself was constantly doing, which is why he was a genius and they aren't

This is so funny to me because influencers are not critics. They are yes men. They sell flattery for a living. They will tell you your product is amazing if you wine and dine them. And then they will tell the public something entirely different just to be popular.

Keep to heart that the issue with the death of physical games is the corporate threat to individual consumers and actual ownership of what they buy. The indignant, rose tinted enabling of hoarding and games collecting is not a solution to this problem. You wanting to have more stuff isn't advocacy.

Wrote about how anime fans looking forward to Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 should watch City of God, one of the best films ever made and the inspiration behind the anime's little aspiring journalist who could.

My question was pointed at returning writer (and Dark Horse spin-off manga author) Bartosz Sztybor. In a post on X/Twitter revealing Edgerunner’s aforementioned new crewmate, Roman Carax, Sztybor revealed that the aspiring journalist was he and director Kai Ikarashi’s “love letter to cinema.” Being something of a cinephile myself, I asked Sztybor the question that’s been sitting in the back of my mind for nearly a year:

“City of God, yeah?”

How I’ve Been Pronouncing It (Feat. Foghorn Leghorn, my… roommate?)

Comic. I’m at my desk, leaning over to the doorway, saying “Hey! Foghorn! Foghorn Leghorn! Get in here!”
Foghorn Leghorn is walking past the doorway, “Boy, I tell ya, I tell ya, not so loud, boy. What, I say, I say, what d’ya want?”
Next panel, I’m gesturing to my computer. “How do I find that really good manga you recommended? It’s an anime now? I keep getting Halloween costumes.” Foghorn leans over my chair, “well, boy, I say, I say, you ain’t typin the entire title.”
Last panel, I turn around- “you said ‘witch hat.’ Foghorn gets in my face- “open your ears, boy!! ‘Witch Hat Atelier, I tell ya! I tell ya ‘Atelier,’ I tell ya’”
