I want the Prime Minister to look into a TV camera and say the RNLI are heroes, that we do not change policy by street violence in this country, and that he expects any criminal action to face the full force of the law. That's it. That's all he has to do.

I ran an absolutely 100% human, zero AI-involvement at any stage passage of my writing through an "AI detector," curious if it could really tell human from AI work, and it said my own writing was "84% AI written" then asked I wanted to pay to have it "humanized." So there's that to keep in mind.

Love this! So much about how language learning is presented in schools turns pupils off - it's experiencing a renaissance among adults thanks to apps like Duolingo, why shouldn't it be the same for younger people?

I really hope people advocating to ban kids from SM read this. Some kids are isolated by disabilities or circumstances. Furthermore, some kids grow up in abusive households. “Ideally, a child’s exposure to online worlds should be moderated by their parents” isn’t a reassuring sentiment for everyone

But in putting in place what's needed for it to be a success (i.e. guaranteeing you can get the popular acts from this year's contest), you're potentially shooting the actual contest in the foot. Anyway, this comes from a grump who was almost certainly never going to go to this tour anyway.
010
Sam Broderick @ohheysamshere.bsky.social · 15/01/2026
On the surface, the tour actually sounds like it might be a good idea - it's capitalising in high fan interest in the artist, among a growing demographic with disposable income who enjoy going to concerts (as seen in several acts' successful tours post-contest).

Sam Broderick @ohheysamshere.bsky.social · 15/01/2026
We already know Olly pulled out of Eurovision last year because it clashed with his own, more lucrative tour. And that was only for a two-week commitment - imagine if he'd been confronted with a two-month commitment.
100
Sam Broderick @ohheysamshere.bsky.social · 15/01/2026
You're essentially asking them to block two months out of their calendars, without any guarantee of work for most of that period (since only ten will be chosen for the tour). I can't think of any freelancer who'd commit to a two-month 'job' for which they might only be given work for two weeks of it

Sam Broderick @ohheysamshere.bsky.social · 15/01/2026
They're committing to two months (early May to early July) where they can't schedule any other work - concerts, live appearances etc. - and that's without any guarantee they'll actually be chosen to do the tour.

Sam Broderick @ohheysamshere.bsky.social · 15/01/2026
Artists participating in this year's Eurovision Song Contest will be contractually required to go on the Eurovision tour, if selected for it (ten of them will be). Which sounds like an excellent way of discouraging any artist with a successful career from participating in the contest.

Folks, I am in need of recommendations - I want to buy my daughter a bass guitar for Xmas. Have about £200 to spend, is there any chance of getting anything decent for this or should I be saving up some more? And will she need a separate bass amp rather than the guitar amp she currently has? 🙏
