Evil, just pure evil
Commissioner for Human Rights & X.com

I am alarmed by the rapidly deteriorating humanitarian crisis in Oleshky, a town in the temporarily occupied parts of the Kherson region of Ukraine.
Civilians, including children, are trapped without sufficient food, medicines, medical care, running water or electricity. Reports indicate that they face a high risk of death.
Under international humanitarian law, Russia, as the occupying power, has the duty to provide food and medical supplies and to facilitate humanitarian relief.
I call for an immediate local ceasefire, unhindered humanitarian access, and the safe evacuation of civilians.
The hardship and suffering of people caught along the frontlines of the war and in occupied territories demand international attention and action. #humanrights #Ukraine #Oleshky #Kherson

Putin continues to gain from Trump's willingness to work with him. Putin basked in the moment in Alaska. Expect the same if he attends in Miami. And how other G20 leaders react will be noteworthy. Putin could openly seek to undermine whatever remains of transatlantic alliance.

Putin does want to see the war end, on his terms. Ukraine refuses to surrender, so Putin fights on. Putin could end the war today if ending it was all he wanted.

In news no one could've seen coming, Putin's United Russia party wins the State Duma elections and with a greater margin than before! Oh and Kadryov remains in charge of Chechnya with 99.85% of the vote! What an incredibly legitimate win this all is! Managed democracy wins again.

Alex Ovechkin is finding out that he can't hide what his support for Putin now means. His support makes him complicit in supporting genocide. His answers to ESPN are shocking to say the least: www.espn.com/nhl/story/_/...

Alex Ovechkin says he supports Russia but is 'not pro-war'
Alex Ovechkin is drawing criticism after appearing in a TV ad for Vladimir Putin's political party, but the NHL's career goal-scoring leader says he only "supports what's happening in Russia" and hopes the war with Ukraine will end soon.

This is worse than a crime, it’s a mistake. Trump/Witkoff/Kushner still think this war is about a piece of territory. Putin would simply pocket the territorial gain & move on to using the negotiations to push his ultimate aim of controlling Ukraine.

This only clarifies, along with other comments he's made since, what I figured was the US position: "Just give up territory so we can make more money (presumably with Russia)."

As there are some who claim Ukraine is disinterested in peace, nothing is farther from the truth. Ukraine wants peace. But lasting peace does not come from accepting Russian demands. This should not be controversial.

It appears, if early reports (via Christopher Miller on X) are accurate, the revived US-led peace process is largely a revival of the past proposals with little new. Perhaps an end to the pause in American efforts given their (read both US and Witkoff/Kushner) greater attention to matters in Iran.

Moscow has a long history of paranoia about Britain’s support for Russia’s enemies
Through the 1920s the fledgling Soviet Union was convinced that Britain was conniving at its destruction.

Echoes Stephen Harper's statement to Putin at the G20 in Nov. 2014: "I guess I’ll shake your hand but I have only one thing to say to you: you need to get out of Ukraine." Putin's response: "That’s not possible, because we’re not there." Harper: "That's why I don't talk to you."
