Congrats @ocornut.bsky.social for Dear ImGui 1.93! Dear ImGui Explorer, its interactive manual, is already on 1.93. Search the demos, browse the whole API, jump seamlessly between code & demos. Works on phones & desktop. pthom.github.io/imgui_explorer/

Credits are due they are mostly Mikko's routines! FYI thick lines are not new in dear imgui its just that many edge cases where improved/fixed in most recent version.

Since a few years it notifies you on screen when there’s a conflict. Deterministic and explicit paths have imho better properties since ID are stable, may be referred to externally (from other code locations).

But practically every year I’m thinking: it’s not progressing fast enough, I’m terrible, all sponsors are going to drop me, now AI is going to replace me, etc and somehow it stays afloat.

I see it as a giant engineering puzzle “order of the sinking codebase” finding a path toward continued improvement without letting people down or causing them trouble. There’s also a matter of pride: I never feel it is good enough so I cannot leave it.

Omar @ocornut.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
it also sits in an odd spot: I suspect it is almost disappointingly unexciting for most users & might slightly get in the way to some, as it is mostly a refactor w/ subtle breakage and no shipped novel tip of the iceberg. But the compound benefits for future improvements will be worth it.

It’s not even a full ImDrawList rewrite and it wasn’t in my immediate plans, but Mikko got himself into a “what is this 0.5 pixel offset?” honeypot and as he was well into that pit I thought i couldn’t let his work be unattended so I eventually fell into the pit myself.

Hopefully most won't immediately notice, but it's a rather big change! Got rid of many <1.50-era mistakes, closed 14 longstanding legit issues/PR. Took a while to come up with good design to move forward + minimize breakage, but there'll be some if you use custom rendering much.

Nothing rocket science, but I updated the 1.00-era ImGuiTextFilter: words separated by space use logical ~and (comma is ~or) which is standard, added support for double-quotes, fixes for "-excl" statement priority. Not meant to be a full-featured regexp match, but a decent convenience one.

Finished support for Mixed/Undeterminate Values display and moved to public API. (It's a generic ImGuiItemFlags_MixedValue flag, aimed to be manipulated by e.g. a generic data-driven property editor in the case of multi-selection).

Immediate mode GUI (I use @ocornut.bsky.social's Dear ImGui) and C++ hot-reload is an extremely powerful combination. Live-coding of UI is like building a Shadertoy - fast visual feedback gets you into a flow state. I've been using ImGui's "background draw list" functionality (which

FYI if you want to try string view support, there's a 'features/string_view' branch that's up to date & been maintained for years. Feedback welcome 🙏 I sat on merging it to avoid adding debug-stepping overhead in common debuggers (but VS now support .natstepfilter in projects).

Thinking about including an extra thing in dear imgui 1.93. - Perhaps I could finally merge support for string view in the API? - Design standard glue to manage idle mode + ship examples that do so (currently externally possible, but being not stock/standard it adds friction)? Opinion?

Reminder: looking for feedback on ImDrawList improvements slated for 1.93, see post below. If you make extensive use of draw primitives and/or have dealt with careful positioning, pixel-perfect shapes, etc trying this in your project and reporting would be nice!

@kangz.net Throwing this out without knowing if there are any ongoing proposal, but it would be nice if webgpu implementation provided compile-time version info, making it easier to share code that can target varying impl and versions? +some versioning in the header file to easily identify things.

There is a huge demand for a look that looks more aligned to standard, or at least better by default. i just worry it would accelerate adoption and there are many lower level things I want to fix/improve first. But It’s subtly coming distilled in hundreds of changes over time.

I don’t mean necessarily all AI assisted PR/issues but it has a strong tendency to empower people to send wall of text that feels like finding signal in a noise stack + using polished form but still carrying occasionally gross mistakes means you need to go through all, which is tedious.
