Into the deep and back again 🌊 During the last #ONCabyss ocean expedition, ONC recovered its first-ever deployed subsea node from 20 years ago—while servicing the networks that keep ocean data flowing. See the expedition highlights 🔗 bit.ly/48X1G6E University of Victoria CFI | FCI

This looks like a fun project: new instruments, recoverable floats so you can get the full data set, descent into the DOM world (hope you have a nitrate uv spectrometer on the floats too), and lots of navies wanting to understand the potential battlespace (i.e. funding...). And Henry is terrific.

🌊 Whoa, that's amazing. Are those pseudopods? Conveyer belts of TEP? (Transparent ExoPolymers (snot)). Forams building their own little sushi bar and made it very pretty (presuming feeding structures). Fantastic.

Now with oceanography 🌊

This looks really interesting, I’m especially interested in water mass and DOM implications/insights. I suspect I’ll have to read it a number of times

Excellent piece on ocean monitoring with fixed assets and floats in the context of challenging trends in the ocean.

I wrote this song on Saturday, recorded it yesterday and released it to you today in response to the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis. It’s dedicated to the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbors and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good. Stay free

The wheels of science continue to grind along among all the upheavals. This is good news!

I just started a "Running list of press" doc for my startup, because @rejectedbanana.bsky.social and I just had our first appearance in someone else's blog and I'm dreaming big. Look out, world, someday we will have TWO FEATURES 🏆 Read the blog post here: altasea.org/ocean-startu...

Lots of work to do on this area of carbon flux, where I started my transition from geology to oceanography.

The same argument holds well for scientific papers, it may be useful to some to read 40/80/100 year old paper, but apart from realizing how little data went into those papers, I can’t imagine it’s terribly enlightening in general

How about “dashing mainstream scientists” ?

For #CTDAppreciationDay my first Bluesky post: We were tracking the oil plumes at depth using the CTD and UV fluorometer from the F.G. Walton Smith during the Deepwater Horizon response. This was the morning after the flaring started from one of the relief drilling ships.
