There are dozens of actors who are more versatile than Cruise and already look the part without tons of appliances. Heck, John Goodman would have been perfect, and was already in the movie.

My assumption is that Cruise was chosen as a box-office draw, and apart from that is entirely wrong for the part. Cruise is a capable actor, but not a great one. He’s also spent a small fortune maintaining a youthful appearance, so they had to spend a small fortune making him look old.

But these aren’t products that are in Beta - they’re (allegedly) production-ready. (It’s like selling a car where the steering wheel flies off while you’re driving.) And if they’re not ready to be released into the world, they shouldn’t charge for them.

I bet he spends his Saturdays with the shades drawn so we don’t see him doing weird Ohio rituals: wearing sweats, drinking DOMESTIC beer, watching Ohio State football. How can you trust a guy like that???

Always thought there was something off about Mamdani…pretending to be a suave, multicultural dude and now it turns out he’s just a common Buckeye! And not even from a cool Ohio city like Cleveland!

Until his brain fermented into yogurt, Trump had the ability to be charming (or at least fake it) when necessary. Vance seems utterly unable to muster any sort of charm or charisma. Lack of personality isn’t a sin, but it does mean you can’t take over a cult of personality.

Hello! Woke is a term originating in Black culture. It’s been demonized by racist white Americans who don’t want to “wake up” to the underlying truth of our cultural history of oppressing Black people and other minorities. If you are just now waking up to the oppression of women, good for you.

Where I grew up in the 70’s, lots of men had beards. They weren’t hippies or Sikhs…they were recently retired military men. It signaled “I am done shaving to someone else’s standards.”

Oblio @oblio.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
While I understand that the article takes a different approach, beards are more of a cultural artifact these days. Beards (or their absence) may be for religious reasons. They may signal non-conformity (hippies) or conformity (hipsters).

If you’re like me, it might look scraggly for a couple of weeks before it fills in properly. Give it enough time. Don’t hesitate to play around and figure out what looks best for you. Some people favor the lumberjack/viking look (I don’t) while others need a trimmed look or even a goatee.

Returning to the store, I had to browbeat the manager into identifying the voided transaction and accepting payment. When your store staff is incentivized to sweep things under the rug because it’s easier than doing them right, you’re begging for inventory shrinkage.

Oblio @oblio.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
*I inadvertently did this at Walmart. I was shopping at the end of a long day, rang up everything at self-checkout, and just forgot to pay. Amazingly, nobody stopped me when I left. After I got home and realized my mistake, I called the store…and they had just voided the transaction.

Oblio @oblio.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
Thinking of writing a book entitled “What The Hell Did You Think Would Happen?”, discussing consequences that are both unintended and easily predictable. Will people use self-checkout to steal?* Can’t imagine that. Putting toiletries under lock and key? Nah, won’t impact sales.

Oblio @oblio.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
Spot on. It’s also a betrayal of readers, too. I want to read what other people want or need to say, not an averaged simulacrum based on stolen property. “50 Shades of Grey” is utterly derivative schlock devoid of any literary or social value, and yet is still better than AI writing.
