I use a bunch of tools for audio and image editing that have some sort of machine learning component (many of which predate the "AI boom" and I consider that quite different from just creating things from whole cloth by prompting.

The term "AI" is part of this. As Cory Doctorow (quoting Riley of Trashfuture) puts it "LLMs are real, AI is fake". LLMs and other kinds of machine learning have a bunch of uses aside from making garbage slop and running chatbots that drive people crazy.

Based on my observation of my teenagers (14 and 17) there's, not a monoculture but maybe a venn overlap culture? For teens at least - and it's weirder than I remember teen monoculture being when I was a teen in the 90s because Tiktok and Reels surface bits of culture kind of at random from anywhen.

My two dogs snuggle up on the couch.Although part of me doesn't want to, I need to analyze, to revisit, to make sense and logic where there was little or none to be found.The usual pattern, the usual emotions, in the face of ignorance, indifference and occasionally annoyance.Arrogance and entitlement bring about a reliance on protocols and rules.Hardest of all to deal with ? the cold eyes of an assaulted woman, seriously beaten by a drunken partner - two of them to deal with.
Him a waste of skin, threatening, belligerent and full of his own shit. Her, the polar opposite, subdued, shattered and hollow eyed.Somewhat unnervingly she seems to be able to see right into my soul, to see I have nothing to give her to mend her broken situation.Another night, another ride on your emotions.Almost at the end and the hardest test, a cot death or for us a neonatal cardiac arrest.Thought and emotion suspended …
