Since I've been here I've finished: The Buffalo Hunter Hunter, My Sister The Serial Killer, The Rage of Dragons, All That We See Or Seem, Lonely Crowds, Dominion, Positive Obsession, All The Sinners Bleed, Yellowface, Worry, Martyr!, Womb City (dnf), and Prophet.

Recently finished The Bees. Don't know what exactly I was expecting, but damn! It's very different from whatever that was. It's unlike anything I've read recently, maybe ever. Absolutely recommend but don't know what to tell you other than it's a novel about bees. It's really good. #BookSky

Recently finished Riot Baby by Tochi Onyebuchi. I liked but didn't love it. 3.25 or 3.5 thumbs up. It was a little disjointed and I don't feel like the author did all they could have with the concept. There was much more that could have been mined there. Good writing though #BlackBookSky #BookSky

One of the many reasons AI can't produce good writing is it can't hate its own writing. It can't think to itself "Maybe I'm illiterate" during the writing process. And that's essential

Also had a couple of novels in there recently, Daughter Of The Merciful Deep was a highlight, dead dead girls was okay but a mess at the end. Currently y towards the end of The Blue Is Where God Lives, which I'm enjoying. #BlackBookSky #BookSky

Recently I've finished memoirs by Junot Diaz (This Is How You Lose Her), and Kiese Lyman (Heavy) that were both good but hard reads. I shouldn't read stuff like that back to back or really even so close together. Oof. #BlackBookSky #BookSky

Just finished Daughter Of The Merciful Deep by Leslye Penelope and liked it a lot. Reminded me of Ta-Nehisi Coates' Water Dancer and some of Nalo Hopkinson's work #BookSky #BlackBookSky #ReadaBook

It's a lot. Good, but a lot. I was not prepared for the way it ended. You'll see.

Finished The Water Dancer and wow! Coates did that. Have long dug his essays and whatnot but this is a whole other level. Great character dev, great story arc, well researched, just a damn good book and a wonderful read. Pick it up! #BlackBookSky #BookSky #ReadingIsFundamental

Maaaaaaan, I effin love the way P. Djèlí Clark writes. Recently finished The Dead Cat Tail Assassins and he's just so damn clever. All kinds of little asides and inside references and jokes. Ring Shout is my favorite of his, but this is a damn good read. #BlackBookSky #BookSky

Might make my top 10, but certainly not in my top 5. You know what they say about opinions though...

Not saying it's the best, but my favorite is Bowfinger. Trading Places and 48 Hours are very close runners up. (That's assuming Raw and Delirious aren't in the mix.)

Just finished Braiding Sweetgrass and it's equal part infuriating, informative, and hopeful. It's grounding in a way I didn't fully expect and low-key funny. I think Kimmerer is only the 2nd indigenous author I've read (w/ Alexie) and I need to change that. #BlackBookSky #IndigenousBookSky #BookSky

That's a great book. You really can't go wrong with Hopkinson at all. Not the novels, not the short stories, it's all incredible. Check out P. Djèlí Clark and Rivers Solomon when you're ready for other rabbit holes to fall down.

Finished Death Of The Author (Nnedi Okorafor) and it's a truly excellent book. 2 even. The way she weaves everything together is masterful and I absolutely did not expect the ending. Masterful storytelling #BlackBookSky #ReadMoreBooks

Just read A Master of Djinn, by P. Djèlí Clark. Great read! It's a steampunk, fantasy, mystery that blends intrigue and historical fiction. Set in an alternate 1910s Cairo where magic has been reignited, we follow Agent Fatma, one of the first women in her govt agency of the supernatural. #BookSky

Currently reading Ring Shout, by P Djèlí Clarke. It's wiiiiilld. I'm loving it. Imagine Buffy but set in the 1920s in the deep South with a Black protagonist and instead of vampires it's monsters called Ku Kluxes that are what klan members turn into when their hate is enough. #BookSky #BlackBookSky

Recently finished Little Rot by Akwaeke Emezi, it was wiiiiiiiiild. A thriller that took us through the underbelly of New Lagos (fictional but based on Lagos). It was a crazy ride and also the smuttiest bit of filth that I think I've ever read. And I mean that in a good way. #BlackBookSky #BlackSky

Waiting for this to start. I'm so worn out from moving that I might fall asleep before it does (there are 48 stairs up to the front door of the old place 😞). I just had to take a couple hours to check out one of my favorite authors @nnedi.bsky.social #BlackBookSky

If they had lived up to the "equal" part of separate but equal, it would be a whole different world. That's the problem though, they won't just get out the way and let us be great.

I know liberals wish things could just go back to how they were, but they won't. Ever. Your system is gone. You can work for something new and better, or you can get lost in nostalgia for the system that oppressed everyone but you.
