It's Friday...so let me share one of the more ridiculous bits of eel history I have. In 1796, the famous comedic actor Richard Yates wanted eels for dinner. When his housekeeper was unable to get him any, Yates threw a huge fit & promptly died of "rage and disappointment." 1/2 🗃️🧪

Meme. Black and white engraving entitled ""Mr. Yates of the Adelphi Theatre." (1826). It shows a man seated at a table for his portrait, leaning casually on one arm. He has a high collar, a cravat, and a heavy dark coat. He has wondrously curly hair, and immaculate sideburns that come 1/2 way down his jowls. His face is rounded, and his lips are pursed. He does not have strong features, but his eye hold you like a hawk holds a mouse. His raised eyebrow says that he knows something secret and prurient about you and your dark desires, but he's not telling. Oh no. He's going to use it for motivation later on. Actors, man.

This stately fellow is not actually Richard Yates, but rather Fredrick Yates, a slightly earlier London actor and theater manager. He was a much more controlled man than Richard, and did not rage himself to death over eels. Even so, I am using his portrait because it's classy, and I am making the case that any dead Yates is interchangeable with another.
