700,000 🎉🥂❇️ That is how many documents are now on NZLII. And I am already calculating when we will reach 750,000! It would be great if all our users today would donate $7 (or $70 or $700!! - hey a girl can dream) to commemorate this occasion. classic.nzlii.org/nzlii/contri...

Just received the May 2026 MVDT (Motor Vehicle Disputes Tribunal) decisions from the Tribunal for loading onto NZLII in the next few days (we treat these as a priority due to them not being publicly available elsewhere). But I noticed the numbering - up about 100 on the same time in 2025. Why?

Whilst we sincerely hope you all love the new look NZLII has, we realise that many still have fondness (or need of) the old look. As someone who is visually challenged I understand! The original look NZLII is still available for use at classic.nzlii.org

My outlook has stopped working on my primary (7 year old) NZLII computer. Repair, changing registry key for space, all not working. Safe mode not working. Setting up new profile not working. They talk about teenagers being dependent on social media, for me it is my email. I am lost without it

Am I a bad person for wanting a cabinet reshuffle *just* so new Briefings to Incoming Ministers are generated? I really enjoyed the hunting down of documents for our BIM's database on NZLII - www.nzlii.org/nz/other/NZB... - the range of organisations preparing BIMs is so fascinating.

The New Zealand High Court (NZHC) has issued decision [2025] NZHC 4002. In 2024 the decision with the MNC of 4002 was issued on the 20th December 2024. Based on this it is likely the NZHC will issue 2.5% more decisions in 2025 than it did in 2024

I should never make predictions. The big round number has just been achieved (so today, and not Tuesday or Wednesday as I predicted in my previous post) - and by a database not in that list.🎈🥳 There are now 600,000 documents on NZLII with the updating of the Treaties database

Perhaps tomorrow, if not tomorrow then definitely Wednesday, NZLII will reach another round figure of number of documents on it. What that document will be is more uncertain than usual as there are a lot of things awaiting loading.

When you see an email from the NZSC (Supreme Court) in your inbox and get excited that it might be a very early (for them) first decision from them for 2025 - only to find it a resend of a 2024 decision (presumably there had been a correction made)

So with Aotearoa/New Zealand Tribunals and Councils generally opening for 2025 on Monday, my biggest thought is which will be the first to load a 2025 decision to NZLII. I will most likely be wrong but I reckon it will be between Auckland Council DLC Queenstown DLC ERA My guess is Queenstown

On 1 January 2024 there was 65,128 cases in NZLII's NZ High Court database. As of midday today, there is 75,128 - exactly 10,000 decisions have been added to that database. I'm pretty sure that is a record for us. And for it to coincide with our 20th anniversary makes it even more special.

Got a dilemma for #NZLaw nerds (or anyone who likes things to be accurate!) Got a High Court decision with a date on the copy we have clearly saying 14 December. Westlaw has a copy, same everything except their copy says 17 December. Lexis does not have a copy. Too old to just go back to the Court

I'm predicting now the the NZ High Court will produce over 4000 decisions this year. Last year it did just under 3900 - but, by the MNC, the Court is running two weeks ahead of the equivalent numbering to last year. I know no one else cares about this but I love this sort of stat #nzlaw

Just read an older NZHC case where the Justice was trying (and failing) to say politely "what the **** was the Family Court Judge doing/thinking when they made this order" It came to me redacted so am unable to check that my suspicion that the father will have later DV cases against him is correct.

Probably a forlorn hope, but has anyone in Thorndon Wellington area found a hearing aid (and probably thought it an ear bud). Son lost one of his between his work and the gym this evening and is worried about the replacement cost, and the problem with trying to work and cope in society without it.

Just noticed that we have now added 6000 NZ High Court decisions to NZLII so far this year, and 18,000 new documents to all of NZLII. These figures do reflect prioritising the processing of the older High Court collection (only c24,000 left to check so over 50% done. Though that has taken 6 years)

Do you know what would help the most? Become a regular - weekly, fortnightly or monthly donor to NZLII? Even a small amount adds up. And that guaranteed monthly donation is all I can rely on when drawing up the 2025 budget (which I am doing now). At the moment it is not even $500 a month.

NZ High Court looks like it is running a week ahead of 2023 in terms of number of decisions issued ([2024] NZHC 1814 issued today, equivalent in 2023 probably would have been 13 July*, in 2022 it was issued on 27 July * I can not actually find a [2023] NZHC 1814 - not on NZLII, Lexis, Westlaw

I know I have raved before about how excellent my current student is - and I will again! For the first 6 months of the year we loaded 5000 older NZ High Court and Court of Appeal decisions to NZLII - 80% of that was her. Cf all of 2023 we loaded 7000 This is what I put the donations towards
