𝗡𝗘𝗫𝗧 𝗪𝗘𝗘𝗞 — Don't miss a dynamic conversation with candidates and experts, all about how #rankedchoicevoting is already transforming NYC elections. RSVP to attend: bit.ly/rcv2025
On Tuesday, September 9 at 8:00 AM, Common Cause/NY, the NYU McSilver Institute, the NYU Wagner Graduate School of Public Service, Citizens Union, and the CUNY Graduate Center will host a timely panel discussion on Ranked Choice Voting (RCV) and its impact on campaigning in New York City. Featured speakers include: Brad Lander (NYC Comptroller & former Mayoral candidate), Scott Stringer (former NYC Comptroller & Mayoral candidate), Vanessa Aronson (former City Council candidate), Andrea Gordillo (former City Council candidate).
In June, over 1 million New Yorkers ranked their choices for Mayor, City Council, and Borough President — only the second time RCV was used in a Mayoral election. RCV allows voters to rank up to 5 candidates in order of preference. Studies show it reduces negative campaigning, prevents the “spoiler effect,” and encourages coalition building. This year’s election results confirm its success: 96% of voters said the ballot was simple to complete. 81% understood RCV extremely or very well. More than 75% want to keep or expand RCV in future elections.
Register for free at the included link to attend.

Today marks the beginning of #MinorityMentalHealthMonth, observed at the national level since 2008. We can all do our part to break down barriers to quality care experienced by the diverse groups that make up this extraordinary country — in July and all year.
National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month
BREAKING STIGMA, ONE CONVERSATION AT A TIME: HOPE, HEALING & RECOVERYJuly is National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to bring awareness to the unique challenges that racial and ethnic minorities in the U.S. face when it comes to mental illness.
In 2020, fewer than one in every two African American adults got care for mental health. In 2018, Asian Americans were 60% less likely to receive mental health treatment than non-Hispanic Whites. Obstacles for many include less access to treatment, a lack of health insurance, and stigma.
Mental illness can affect people of all races and ethnicities. Show your support this month and beyond by learning more about mental health and speaking up in your communities.
