I visited the Marathon Agriculture Fair and got a chance to see first-hand the work being done by our local organizations, farmers, and businesses. It was a wonderful opportunity to take a moment and appreciate the hardworking people in Senate District 52.

This Wednesday I held a Utility Clinic in partnership with the Public Utility Law Project (PULP). This event was a great opportunity for people to get on-site assistance with their utility bills from experts. Thank you to all the partner organizations and community members who stopped by.

Across the state yesterday, leading justice campaigns advocated for reform to our carceral system, and my office was proud to stand with them in Ithaca, NY. Every person behind bars is someone’s child, parent, or sibling, and they have a fundamental right to safety and dignity.

Labor history is being made. Nearly 70K NY caregivers have filed for an election to join @1199seiu.org. With 190K workers eligible to vote, it could be one of the largest union elections in U.S. history. Care workers show up for us every day, and I’m proud to support them. #CareisWork

I presented several awards at EM Multi Service’s 5th annual Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration. It was a great chance to celebrate culture, food, and music. This month is also a time for us to recognize the lasting contributions that the Hispanic community has made in our state and in our country.

I had a great time at the Tompkins County Airport Day & Preparedness Expo. This important annual event features a Preparedness & Safety Fair and Citizen Preparedness Corps Training, which strengthen our community’s emergency response management and makes us all more prepared.

Today we pause and honor those veterans and military personnel who have died by suicide. I am a strong advocate for increased mental health resources and programs for veterans, such as the Joseph P. Dwyer Veterans Peer Support Project.

I was honored to speak at the 50th Anniversary Celebration of Ithaca Neighborhood Housing Services. INHS has been absolutely integral in our community since their inception, assisting in rebuilding community spaces, playgrounds, and creating more housing opportunities.

My staff attended the Town of Ithaca’s Babcock Ridge Trail Ribbon Cutting event and honored retiring Town of Ithaca Supervisor, Rod Howe. This new trail has amazing views and I am excited for our community to have more opportunities to get out in nature.

My staff attended the Star Presentation for Steven Nanni. Steven has worked with local churches, theatres, opera houses, and charities. He is truly a shining star in our community, and now he will live in history on the Wall of Stars here in the Broome County Forum Theatre.

My staff went on the Legislative Bus Tour for Tompkins County Soil and Water Conservation District. This tour was an incredible opportunity to see local farms and creeks around our area, to learn about native plant species, and meet other local officials.

I attended the Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways Women of Distinction ceremony and presented an award to this year’s honoree, Carolyn Mancini. Carolyn is a lifelong resident of Senate District 52 and a leader in the construction industry across New York State.

September is National Infant Mortality Awareness Month. In 2024, the mortality rate for Black/African American infants was two times higher than infants nationwide. As a member of the Senate health committee, I am committed to funding research to close this gap in infant care.
