We already have 20 CMs signed on and are aiming for 31! 13 of those 20 sign-ons were achieved thanks to our collective's initial efforts, but we need more New Yorkers to call to get the additional 11 sign-ons. Joseph is today's priority!

ACTION ITEM: Please call Councilmember Rita Joseph TODAY and urge her to sign on to Int. 953, which would require the DOHMH to offer medication abortion at ALL NYC Sexual Health Clinics (currently, it's only offered at 4 of the 6 clinics). Call 212-788-7352 and leave a message using this script:
Hi there. My name is [YOUR NAME] and I am calling to ask Councilmember Joseph to sign on to Intro 953. This bill would require the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene to make medication abortion available at no cost at all of NYC’s Sexual Health Clinics.

Medication abortion is currently available at only 4 of the City’s 6 Sexual Health Clinics. The Chelsea and Corona clinics still do not provide it. Int. 953 would close this service gap by removing DOHMH’s ability to exclude particular clinics.

Patients seeking time-sensitive care through the City’s Sexual Health Clinics should not have to face hurdles. I want the City to use the full extent of its public health infrastructure to provide free abortion care. Will the councilmember co-sponsor Int. 953?

As reproductive justice advocates, doulas and parents, we are outraged. There is no reproductive justice under a system that criminalizes and dehumanizes our neighbors and tears families apart. We urge New Yorkers to join the action Legal Aid Society has called for tomorrow at 1pm outside the court.

On Fri night, Brooklyn court staff forced a woman to give birth inside the courtroom. Per public defenders, she gave birth in handcuffs, unable to reposition herself, unable to pick up her infant. The men who’d shackled her looked on. The judge lauded the birth of a ‘beautiful baby’ on the record.

The Fifth Circuit and Supreme Court orders are NOT FINAL. It is part of the ongoing litigation over FDA rules governing mifepristone prescribing and dispensing, including regulatory changes that expanded mail, pharmacy, and telehealth access.

For now, Mife can continue to be mailed by providers while the Court considers the emergency requests from Mife manufacturers on the Fifth Circuit’s nationwide restriction. This pause lasts one week, until May 11 at 5 PM EDT, unless the Court extends it or issues another order.

Abortion pills ARE AND WILL REMAIN READILY AVAILABLE by mail in all 50 states. This is because of community distribution networks that have grown and strengthened across the US over the past decade and because medications other than mifepristone — like misoprostol — can be used for safe abortion.

We heard that "progressive" Councilmember Gale Brewer is considering changing her vote on 175-B (she abstained in the first round). Give her a quick call TODAY (before 5pm) to demand she vote NO on 175-B so that the mayor's veto holds! 212-873-0282
“Hi my name is [NAME] and I’m a constituent from [neighborhood] calling to urge CM Brewer to uphold the Mayor’s veto of Intro 175-B and vote NO on any override.
If passed, 175-B would infringe on our First Amendment rights and increase police presence at any buildings where educational activities are taking place. It would harm workers’ rights to picket and force Black, brown, and immigrant students and workers into more contact with law enforcement.
Instead of this dangerous bill, I ask CM Brewer to fight for real, evidence-based solutions for safeguarding New Yorkers, such as the NYC Against Hate Violence policy platform. Please stand firm and fight for labor unions, community organizations, students, educators, and all New Yorkers who believe in our constitutional right to protest safely. I am counting on CM Brewer to vote NO on an override and uphold the Mayor’s veto of 175-B.

Mayor Mamdani vetoed 175-B! Supported by Zionist institutions, 175-B seeks to prevent pro-Palestine protests at schools. The Mayor’s veto comes after a broad coalition of pro-Palestine, Jewish, education, labor, repro, and progressive orgs fought for months against this bill and similar proposals.

All buffer zone proposals at both the New York City and NY State levels are being pushed by Zionist institutions who seek to avoid public accountability for hosting illegal sales of stolen Palestinian land. We cannot let these groups speak over the vast majority of NYers who oppose ethnic cleansing!

Myth: these bills are police transparency bills Fact: They are not. 1-B and 175-B do not ask the NYPD to outline current practices/policies related to how/when they are deployed to houses of worship/educational facilities, but rather call on the NYPD to advance a single response: security perimeters

Myth: we have buffer zones at abortion clinics. Fact: We don't. Our city + state clinic access laws, Admin Code 10-1003 and Penal Law 240.70-240.73, are narrow and targeted. They forbid a specific set of activities within 15ft of clinics. Neither involve buffer zones restricting all forms of speech.

Myth: these bills combat antisemitism Fact: these bills do not combat any form of hate — they fail to address the root causes of hate-motivated incidents + do not rely on evidence-based studies or programs. JFREJ has evidence-based alternatives to the bills — the city just needs to implement them.

Councilmembers are spreading a lot of misinformation about Intros 1-B and 175-B, the two "buffer zone" bills that are slated to be voted on this afternoon. The bills will not combat antisemitism or any form of hate, and will endanger New Yorkers already disproportionately targeted by the NYPD.

What's the connection btwn foreign real estate companies and a NYC bill? Int. 1-B, sponsored by NYC Council Speaker Julie Menin, seeks to prevent protests outside synagogues hosting illegal sales of stolen Palestinian land. 1-B supporters are enabling Israel's violent annexation of the West Bank.

4) Demand NY invests in our abortion funds and clinics! The state legislature can fund for the Reroductive Freedom and Equity Program (sponsored by @votejgr.bsky.social) which provides state funding directly to the funds and providers that are experiencing unprecedented demand.
Demand NY Invest in Its Abortion Funds and Clinics

Post-Roe, our abortion care infrastructure has already been facing extreme pressure with long wait-times, insufficient staff, and closing clinics.

If NY wants to remain an 'access state' we must demand our city and state lawmakers use state resources and invest in clinics and abortion funds.

One way the NYS Government can do this is by increasing allocations to the Reproductive Freedom and Equity Program, which supports providers and funds, and increasing Medicaid Reimbursement Rates in their budget.

3) Support abortions for folks in your community! Become an Abortion Doula! NY’s collective at newyorkabortiondoulas.org.
Learn to Support Someone Through Their Abortion

Abortion doulas are trained companions that provide physical, emotional, and informational support to people accessing abortion care.
Join or start your own doula collective (NY is developing one at
newyorkabortiondoulas.org) or reach out to clinics to offer support.

Even if you're only supporting friends and folks in your community, you're doing invaluable work by destigmatizing and increasing access to reproductive healthcare.

Share Information About Abortion Pills by Mail

Tens of thousands of people in all 50 states have been accessing abortion pills via mail, even after Roe was overturned. It's vital we use our protections as New Yorkers to share how people can access this care.

Support Your Local Abortion Fund and Practical Support Orgs

Abortion funds provide money to patients for abortion care. Practical Support Orgs (PSOs), as well as certain funds, help with patient travel and lodging costs.
Funds have experienced unprecedented demand since the end of Roe, as patients from banned states are forced to travel. This will only get more dire under a Trump admin.
For New Yorkers, our local fund is the New York Abortion Access Fund (nyaaf.org). You can sign up to help funds and PSOs across the country at abortionmob.org.
