It’s late 2026 and I begin chemotherapy in 3 days. Here are some observations I’ve learned on the 9th floor oncology ward: 5% use masks. In my almost 3 years of treatments and surgeries, even in the hospital, even in oncology, less than 1/20 masks. Those who do wear skew to ASTM-3 floppy masks.

My cats sleep near me every night. I awake to a paw on my face just minutes before the alarm goes off, every day. These little guys show me affection all day and night. They seem to enjoy my company. I tell ‘em I love ‘em. Just like my kids. Every day. All day. Let ‘em know. Show them. ✌🏼

My MBTA TAP expired after chemo ended last year. I didn’t renew it & I stopped going anywhere beyond appointments. Went to print papers for doc, logged in and d/l MBTA rail app. Instead found a button to link my placard & updated my TAP. Took train to oncology appointment. Going to for remainder✌🏼

Scans show a tumor & it’s growing. CT/MRI/PET each test it was found to be 10mm bigger. Oncologist wants me to do chemo (again) then surgery. Meeting with surgeon today. Medical team & oncologist meeting next week. 13%, that’s chances I see 50 and that’s how I’ll fight. now off to scream b4 appt

Waking up early in the city was a good time: flashing yellow lights at intersections, the daily roar of motors & electricity now muted. Nobody gets up early in Boston. Most days my limitation would be finding places or shops still closed at 8am. End up sitting on porch (front or back) listening.

Uprooted and moved, and in that time I had my 3 month checkup. There were two findings: one on my liver and one lymph node. Oncology is more worried about the node as it may be necrotic. PET and MRI w/contrast ahead. No matter how at peace I am with my cancer, the fight only ends when I die. ☠️ 🥊

In 2017 I accidentally inhaled encapsulated sub-micron magnetic particles. I was running a CNC on little 10mm discs for testing in an airline fixture for ų permeability. Science & engineering, good stuff, but the ventilation plan did not account for this. I was wearing N95+ respirator.

The biggest obstacle I have been facing is myself. Rather than withdraw any more, I pushed myself to engage and talk to people. The secret I use? I make cheesecakes and then hand them to random people and just wish them a blessed day. That’s it. Not very “New England” but very much me.
