I was at Alumni Weekend at my undergrad last weekend, and I am always amazed that this tiny, still-young, engineering-only school has managed to produce at least three statistics faculty. So we got a photo of all of us! Me ('16), Jerzy Wieczorek ('06), and Zach del Rosario ('14)

The art in the thread to this point has been art I think about often for unquestionably good reasons. But these holiday decorations in Boston theater district...
A statue on a street, at least one story tall, or a nutcracker in blue and green with a duck head.

The formatting here of course leaves a lot to be desired, but I think I do miss things being compact? #WayBackCollegeChallenge
A screen capture of www.fitchburgstate.edu from Oct 7, 2011 from Wayback Machine.

The background is faintly green. Menus in bright yellow at the top are for About Us, Admissions, Academics, Athletics, Offices & Services, News & Events, and Student Life. Below, the Fitchburg State school name, logo, and seal are on a black background with a search menu and options for Current Students, Prospective Students, Visitors, Alumni, and Faculty/Staff, each illustrated with a large headshot.

Below that are columns of links. One is Shortcuts to admissions, online MBA, fall courses, and ordering books. The second column is news. The third is events, all athletics.

At the bottom of the page is a poorly formatted paragraph in italics describing the university. There is a green bar below that.

#MathsToday cheered and cowbell-ed so hard for all our graduates, including one who gave the student address! I'm particularly proud of Mackenzie, our very first student to graduate with a Data Analytics minor 📊 her cap referenced multiple courses she took with me 😭

#MathsToday Last day of classes done! Just finals and grading to go. It's been kind of a rough semester, so I'm pretty glad to see it wrapped up. Concept map day in PoDA and Applied Stats. The PoDA students leaned silly with theirs, which was very fitting for this group.
Concept map on a whiteboard with "Data" at the center. Some serious things about visualization, cleaning, and modeling branch off of that, but so does "2000" (the course number), then connected to "year" which connects to "2007" and then "recession." Elsewhere, a line mysteriously goes from a penguins dataset to somewhere out of frame.

Pretty proud of my on-the-spot drawing of the two different sequences of intervals, though.
Drawing and expanded proof of Lemma 1 in Li and Yorke's Period 3 Implies Chaos. The drawing shows a sequence of intervals. Each interval is a subset of the image of the previous interval under a map F. Another sequence of intervals is nested within each other, with the nth member of the sequence having the nth original intervals as its image under F^n. The expanded proof is induction, written with more clearly defined steps (base case, induction hypothesis, induction step).

#MathsToday Started Stat Analysis today with a carousel of different graphs from the same data. It was a little chaotic (mostly because the number of students there today was really not in my favor), but it led to good conversations about making clear graphs with more folks contributing than usual!
A slide of four different bar, waffle, or pie charts on the same data, with varying qualities of labels, contrast, ability to compare groups, etc.

#MathsToday The problems of the week I post in the dept vary a lot in how much attention they get, but this week's *really* caught a couple students. Diffy boxes/ Ducci sequences are great.
A whiteboard with a problem about diffy boxes in the center, lots of student work to either side.

Happy first OU gymnastics meet day of 2026! This quote from one of the team's coaches last year isn't something I would say to a student without knowing them really well. When I was younger, I think I might have understood it as "it will never be good enough." But that's not how I hear it now.
A cross stitch that says "Better is still a deduction" in crimson with a patterned crimson border. Next to the text is a gray gymnast doing a leap.

Okay progress today: some frogging/surgery from yesterday, finished words (will say more when the piece is done about what this means to be beyond OU WAG fandom), and more border work.
Cross stitch from previous posts in thread with more progress. Cream-colored Aida. In crimson floss, says "Better is still a deduction" with three stitches removed in the word "still" from yesterday. A full left border, and parts of a bottom and top border are stitched.

I'm usually not a big fan of stitching words (even though I seem to do it a lot 🙃), but the back of this is very satisfyingly neat and dense
Same cross stitch as in previous posts in thread, but with more progress. Cream fabric and crimson floss. So far, it reads "is still a deduction" with part of a border.

At the end of the amount of floss I cut, so here's an update. Making progress...
Same cross stitch from previous post with more progress. Cream colored cloth in a hoop. In crimson floss, says "is still a ded" with last d not complete yet. There is part of a criss cross border on the left.
