I rarely talk about how I was 6 blocks away from the WTC on 9/11. & it's less bc of the trauma and more the sheer shame of how the US turned that trauma into grist for more killing. here, I talk about how the attacks became a formative moment in my political life www.coyotemedia.org/september-11...

“To me, 9/11 is so much about a nation that performed innocence and hurt while becoming crasser, deadlier, and more terrified of its own shadow.” This @coyotemedia.org piece by @soleilho.com is a must read. As in, I’ve read it 4x.

Yikes. Women accounted for all of the job losses and all of the labor force decline in July, according to @nwlc.org
WASHINGTON — Women accounted for 100 percent of the decline in the labor force in July, according to a National Women’s Law Center jobs analysis of monthly data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. That brings the total net number of women who have left the labor force since January this year to 845,000. In comparison, there are 406,000 fewer men in the labor force now than in January.

A total of 165,000 women, aged 20 and over, left the labor force last month — meaning they are neither working nor looking for work — while men's labor force participation was unchanged. Overall, the economy lost 23,000 jobs in July. Women accounted for all of these losses, losing 32,000 jobs, while men gained 9,000 jobs. Women make up 50.1% of the workforce.

This story brought back so many memories! I visited this shop weekly in the mid-2010s, mostly to buy film and cameras from Glass Key — but also for records. Dick was such a light, so funny, and I spent more $ there than I'd like to admit. Read the piece to find out who else is taking it over ;)
