Can't believe I missed #NationalCatDay. This is ~11th-13th century, likely made in Cairo. The text on the side is Judaeo-Arabic.

Solomon ben Judah, the head of the Palestinian Yeshiva in Jerusalem (and thus all the Jews in the Fatimid Caliphate), wrote this letter in the 11th century. His friend, a Muslim named Qayn ibn 'Abd al-Qadir, has fallen foul of the governor of Ramla and a warrant is out for his arrest. Solomon calls

I'm so tired of statements like this and people acting like it's reasonable discourse. This is genocide apology. It is rationalization for supporting genocidal policy. If this is your true, deeply held belief, I guess you're entitled to that. Just don't be surprised when nobody wants to talk to you.

Nothing new under the sun
Within the Ottoman Empire, the first coffeehouse opened in 1555 in Tahtakale, Istanbul. Since Tahtakale is to the West of the Bosporus, this would likely have been the first coffee house in Europe. Thriving trade brought many goods, including coffee, from the Ottoman Empire to Venice. Coffee became more widely accepted in Europe after Pope Clement VIII declared it a Christian beverage in 1600, despite appeals to ban the "Muslim drink". Coffee had spread to Italy by 1600 and then to the rest of Europe, Indonesia, and the Americas. The first European coffeehouse outside of the Ottoman Empire opened in Venice in 1647.

Al-Khalil (aka Hebron) is the largest city in the southern West Bank and the heart of the Palestinian economy in the area. Most WB cities are part of Oslo Area A, placed under the nominal control of the Palestinian Authority, but Israel kept the H2 area and still controls it like Oslo C.
Map of the 'Hebron Redeployment' protocol from 1997, showing the H1 (the western ~80% of the city) and H2 (eastern ~20%) areas of the city of Hebron, surrounded by the Oslo A and C areas of the West Bank. H2 and Oslo C are under full IDF control. H1 and Oslo A are under nominal Palestinian Authority control. East of the city, within Area C, are two large Israeli settlements (Givat Harsina and Kiryat Arba). The original map is from the Wikipedia article "Protocol Concerning the Redeployment in Hebron" and I have modified it with additional labels to designate the Oslo areas.

TIL the SPD always forms a coalition with the right, especially when the alternative is forming a coalition with the left
Text from the Wikipedia article "Grand coalition (Germany)"

Merkel cabinets (2005–2009, 2013–2021)
After the inconclusive result of the 2005 German federal election, neither of the traditional coalitions could form a majority government. A larger centre-left coalition was possible, comprising the SPD, Greens, and the Party of Democratic Socialism (PDS); but the SPD desired to exclude the PDS, the successor party to East Germany's ruling Socialist Unity Party, from government (i.e. a cordon sanitaire). Consequently, the leaders of the SPD and the CDU/CSU agreed to form a grand coalition, with CDU leader Angela Merkel as chancellor and an equal number of cabinet seats for each party. The chancellor was elected on 22 November, and the 1st Merkel Cabinet took office.[11] The grand coalition lasted until the 2009 federal election, when a coalition was agreed between the CDU/CSU and the FDP.[12]

Following the 2013 election, a third grand coalition was formed by the CDU/CSU and the SPD.[8] Again it would have been numerically possible to form a center-left government with the SPD, Greens, and The Left (the successor party to the PDS), but a grand coalition was formed instead. The term GroKo (shortening for Große Koalition) was named 2013 word of the year in Germany.[13] After the 2017 election, the CDU/CSU initially entered talks with the FDP and Greens (a Jamaica coalition);[14] however, negotiations failed, and the CDU/CSU and SPD ultimately agreed to a fourth grand coalition.[15]

Merz cabinet (2025–present)
The Merz cabinet was signed in April 2025 thus marking a fifth time a coalition has happened between the CDU/CSU and the SPD despite the SPD becoming the third largest party in the Bundestag after the federal election held in February where the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) became the second largest party. Because the SPD had fallen to third place, some sources defined the coalition as a red–black coalition rather than the traditional grand coalition.

This is an 8th-century Georgian translation of Jeremiah 12, probably copied at an Orthodox monastery in Palestine. Around the 10th century, it was overwritten with Aramaic passages from the Palestinian Talmud (Bava Qama 9), which is the smaller perpendicular text in the image. @theul.bsky.social

One of the tell-tale signs that a manuscript may have been used as an amulet is evidence of rolling or folding into a thin strip, which would have allowed it to fit into an amulet case and worn as a pendant. Such crease marks are visible across this leaf, which is only about 3 inches in width.

The question, of course, is why did a Jew have this manuscript, and why did they store it in a genizah? Typically, a genizah is for storing manuscripts that are badly damaged, and we often find folios that are torn from their sewn bindings. By contrast, this one was carefully cut free.

Israel hasn't allowed any external investigation, so while we know the total casualty figures (from government records ofc), we still don't know exactly how many each side was responsible for. It's plausible that IDF air crews panicked and killed a few hundred of the 1163 by mistake.
Text from this article: https://electronicintifada.net/content/how-israel-killed-hundreds-its-own-people-7-october/49216

Photos and drone footage of the scrapyard clearly showed many of the cars were completely flattened and twisted in a manner consistent with Israeli bombing from the air.

In short, the cars looked very similar to the Palestinian cars (of both civilians and fighters) habitually bombed by Israel from the air in Gaza over the years.

Today, it seems the scrapyard has become something of a tourist attraction for Israel and its supporters – a site they refer to as a “car burial ground.” In one video shot there this past summer, an Israeli army tour guide says that the scrapyard contains “1,650 vehicles that were brought here.”

In one ambulance alone, he says, from the ash and “human dust” they recovered, the remains of 18 people were found.

Whatever the true figure of the Israelis dead from “Hannibal” attacks by Israel, it does seem entirely plausible that Israel killed hundreds of the Israelis who died during the course of the offensive.

Another day, another page from a manuscript unique in world history. This is the "Cambridge Yiddish Codex," the earliest known collection of Yiddish texts (1382 CE). It preserves Jewish homilies, animal fables, and a lost poem of the German epic tradition, "Dukus Horant." It was discovered in Cairo.
Light brown waterstained paper folio with about 20 lines of Yiddish text in brown-black ink, much of which is faded. The background is white and a small red caption reads T-S 10K22 (https://cudl.lib.cam.ac.uk/view/MS-TS-00010-K-00022/23).

Yeah...
I don't think Israel's barbarism amounts to genocide, because words mean things, but to say that everyone who does believes this is such horseshit.
