"You can go over the entire Genizah, but you can only do it once." ~ Gideon Bohak today in a workshop on Jewish magic in the #Genizah at @goetheuni.bsky.social. When you start going through so many thousand fragments, you have to know at the start what you're looking for! @camdiglib.bsky.social

While magic was widely practised, some scholars like Moses Maimonides forbade the use of Jewish symbols in magical texts. This is an autograph draft of Maimonides' most famous work of Jewish law, the Mishneh Torah (~1170s CE). The top line may be the only extant sample of his Arabic handwriting.

Yellowish paper bifolium, torn on the left edge, with about 20 lines of fine looping Hebrew script in black ink. The pages sit on a blue background and are labelled T-S NS 309.11 (https://cudl.lib.cam.ac.uk/view/MS-TS-NS-00309-00011/2). The top margin has a line of larger Arabic script in a reddish-brown ink, possibly written by a later hand.
