Certainly, I don't think the Dems can get a *better* bill in the next Congress. I just don't think the one on the table is any better than "meh". For the good it does, and there's certainly some benefit to it, there's about an equal amount of bad, so I don't see any reason to expend capital on it.

Then, in the second set of public comments, Mr. Weir and the commissioners got blasted by the people who remained for their abdication of their responsibility to the citizens of Nevada. It was testiest I've seen a PUCN meeting get by a large margin, and deservedly so.
Advocates speak before the PUCN in Las Vegas.

Mr. Weir's comments were one of the most tone-deaf messages I have ever heard from a public servant. Basically, after setting the bar for direct participation in the docket so high that none of the advocacy organizations in attendance could afford to participate, he complains that they don't.
Advocates for the public wait their turn to address the PUCN.

Then, of course, the commission voted unanimously to move the project forward. This was followed by PUCN general counsel Garrett Weir excoriating the public for doing their advocacy wrong, and not for the first time. His remarks were met with extreme disapproval from the audience.

There were some fireworks today at the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada. The topic on the agenda was the proposal for private gas power generation for new hyperscaler data centers in Storey County. For over two hours, literally everyone in Carson City and Las Vegas spoke against this proposal.

I hear you. The problem is that nobody trusts the hyperscalers, the federal government, their electrical utility, or their regulators (at least not around here). So it's safer from their standpoint to just blanket oppose these things rather than to be selective and risk getting screwed.

This is demonstrably, measurably improving the health of the people who live there. Most notably, it increases the respiratory *& cognitive* health of children. They literally do better in school. If this country really gave a shit about children, this would be at the top of the public-policy list.

The administration would be an outstanding comedy show if these folks weren't in charge of things. I have a feeling the writers on Veep are, in hindsight, reevaluating a lot of comedy bits they rejected as being too far fetched.

In addition to our usual signs and music, this week we also had a sing-along portion of our festivities. Warning: If the Cheatin' Cheeto isn't gone soon, we're going to be adding karaoke to the mix, and trust me, nobody wants to see that. Just sayin'.
A low shot of the protesters holding signs from behind as they face southeast at the NW corner of California and Main in downtown Las Vegas. It's time for the sing-along portion of tonight's program as one protester leads the group singing protest songs. Another protester holds up a poster on which are written the song's lyrics. Several other protesters are also visible, with the group singing out of view behind the camera. An isolated portrait view of a protester holding a sign that reads, "The ICE Age Is OVER."

It's #FightFascismFriday with @indivisiblelasvegas.org again in beautiful downtown Las Vegas. We've got tolerable weather, a few clouds, some good tunes, and some *great* energy from passers by. Once again, we're a block south from our usual spot due to road construction at Charleston and Main.
Protest marshals are making sure everything is set up and everything is safe while a sign in the foreground proclaims that it's Fight Fascism Friday. Our safety team leader, affectionately known as "Bubbles", checks in with the folks from Metro who will be keeping tabs on us for the evening. It's all cool.A protester holding a sign that is out of frame stands perpendicular to the camera. In the background are several protesters holding signs. One reads, "Your Silence Gives Consent". Another reads, "Fight For the Children".

Tensions have been high at school board meetings for years, although that seems to have escalated with the election of several candidates who supported the Moms For Liberty platform. Recently, these tensions have escalated.
Protesters supporting board member Biassotti's exclusionary statement on trans people. I count 11 in this picture, although there may be a few more stacked behind the tree or others.Pro trans rights protesters walk up and down the sidewalk in front of E. Flamingo Road carrying signs. One reads "Trans Rights Are Human Rights". Another reads "Solidarity Forever". A third in the distance reads "Shame On Bigot Lorena". Other signs are partially visible but not completely legible. There is a lineup of maybe 30ish people waiting to get in and attend the meeting at the Clark County School District Education Center.

The two groups were separated by the entrance driveway to the education center. There was a considerable police presence for both the protest and the meeting. The protest was without incident.
