Don’t forget The Protectors from TV Action. I’d be up for that but I very much doubt you’ll ever do it…

This looks wonderful (as always) but what exactly is it and where is the material culled from?

And yet… and yet… the Grange Hill theme tune *was* on Thames in as much as it was also the theme to Give us a Clue. So you can almost make it make sense!

The Protectors! Everything else has been done to death but The Protectors has always been overlooked…

Take your point but these are more works of art than timepieces. I’ve resisted my partner’s idea of having 3 clocks next to each other until now because knowing that they would never be perfectly in sync would bug me. But I’ve decided that there are more important things to worry about!

What do you mean, I’ve got too many beautiful, retro TV ident clocks from @hiddenbritain.bsky.social?

I know a fair bit about archive television but I'd never heard of the show which sits at number one on this list. Obviously, I'm desperate to watch it now. But predictably, all six episodes have been wiped so I can't. Bugger. www.telegraph.co.uk/tv/2026/07/1...

Yes, the steelbook has now arrived. Thanks very much for intervening, Fred. Most kind of you. Very much looking forward to your book, by the way. I have the Tim Heald original so will be interested to see what you’ve done with it. Not long to wait now, hopefully!

The only way I can get the steelbook right now is to cancel my order for the book. Which is just silly. Can’t be bothered with that palaver so will just wait. I’ve waited since before last Christmas so a bit longer won’t hurt. Seriously unimpressed with customer service though. FAB it is not.

Already tried that last Christmas (!) and they told me to wait until the book was ready. Worth another try I suppose….

Hi Fred. That’s fine; I totally get that there are sometimes delays in publishing and that those delays often mean a better product when it’s released. What annoys me is that because I ordered the Breakaway Steel-book at the same time, they won’t send me that until the book is ready. Very unhelpful.

Mine arrived today. Have only had time for the most cursory of looks so far but my! What lovely treasures! Can’t wait to get stuck in. Thanks Jamie! 😊

You haven’t even sent me Breakaway and the Making Of book yet which I ordered (and paid for) last November! 8 months I’ve been waiting. 8 months!

What a difference a single letter can make. With the O at the end, Alberto is a sophisticated and stylish Italian hairdresser. Without the O, he sounds like a character in Coronation Street. #AlbertoBalsam

Interesting choice of image to put front and centre on a reminder to renew your TV Licence. "Remember this terrible version of Doctor Who which tanked? Renew your licence fee and we promise not to make any more of it for a good year or two!"
TV Licence renewal advert with a very prominent photo of Ncuti Gatwa as Doctor Who. Which is no incentive to renew whatsoever.

From life, presumably.
BBC News runs a strap saying that Hockney has resigned rather than died. Oops.

The leafy, expensive, well to do, Lib Dem voting London version! If Waitrose was a constituency, this would be it.

It’s all kicking off in Richmond.
TGJones in Richmond. The name has been crossed out and replaced with WHSmith (its former name) by a disgruntled graffiti artist.

@transdiffusion.org Was this ever used on air or is it fictitious? I'm leaning towards the latter unless you know better... hiddenbritain.bigcartel.com/product/midl...

Another random piece of archive TV ephemera has made its way into my collection: an original commercial break caption card from Jemima Shore Investigates (Thames, 1983).

@transdiffusion.org “the woman on the left is reading a Pan edition of "The Spirit and the Flesh" by David Weiss. That gives me a terminus post quem for the photo — 1965, the year it was published.” Similarly, the car bottom right was registered between August 1964 and July 1965!

Got it - thanks. Still very recognisable even if the whole area looks a bit tawdry these days. Thanks so much for sharing these. It’s made me realise that I’d only ever seen that side view of the studios up to now!

I see. So the same tree is just out of frame on the right of this shot?
