I was just informed by some idiot that DDT was banned because it “might have harmed some birds”. I cannot believe that everything that we tried to do to protect the environment, of which humans are a part, is being dismissed as nonsense. Do people think chemicals were so easy to remove from use?

Deer in our backyard. We have 5 acres mostly woodland that we leave untouched except for a rough trail that meanders through it. We don’t feed the deer. They eat what they like. We just keep our distance; it’s about mutual respect. I love that we can provide a bit of safe space for all of them.

My dad wasn’t buried. My father died last year and he was cremated. We had a small gathering here in California and then a Catholic Service in his hometown in Iowa. My brother and I decided we didn’t need to do anything at the gravesite out in the cold windy weather at our local cemetery in January.
