At a live show and one member of the band just shouted Does anyone have gout? and look there’s a lot of signs you’re getting older and this is probably one of them.

Will be doing a reading in November. I haven't done one in years and it will surely be hilarious. Fortunately there are others to pick up the slack.
Monday 9th at the Shakespeare hotel. I actually hate reading so this is like a 'won't do it for another decade' thing.

Happy ten year anniversary of the 2016 blackout in South Australia. I was told that as clean power grew in Aus, we'd see a blackout apocalypse. The chart below shows blackouts for generation shortfall as columns, and renewable proportion as a percent of the eastern grid. Enjoy :)

My little project of biographies, An Incomplete History of Disquiet, is going to appear in Remains, edited by Andy Cox and illustrated by Richard Wagner. Below is the title page of it to give you a taste. Remains is a full colour physical mag, so grab yourself a sub if you wanna read it.
Image of a woman's face, possible Constance Weaver. Title page for a short biography about an actor who maybe never existed. Will be in the next issue of Remains. Artist is Richard Wagner.

The U.S. FDA announced 46 recalls in August alone. That includes food products and drugs— a notable increase from August 2025 when it was 26 products. That's why it's more important than ever to share links to sources, and to click through and read the article. The headline alone won't suffice.

Why would you organise alphabetically based on the first name? I wonder if Coetzee considers himself an Australian author? I suspect he wouldn't consider Disgrace an Australian book, but it's great, so fuck it, I guess.

Writing a book will wash you onto some shores. Not sure why you’d want to farm those out to AI, given how much of a book’s future is fragile and unsure once you’re done.

One day you’ll love your novel viruses and your lack of privacy. One day you’ll love AI.
AI bro says, ‘AI will be popular when it clearly is making people’s lives easier. When it’s really saving time and money.

The progress we’re seeing right now on things like novel virus development and cyber-intrusions is extraordinary. But those are too abstract for most people to appreciate.’

When I taught more I used to recommend stuff like James Dashner’s Maze Runner books to boys. Then it came out Dashner had been grooming and manipulating school girls. Another author, Jay Asher was named at the same time as well, I think. Anyhow, sometimes there’s issues.

The thing people seem to forget about criticism is that it is its own art. It doesn’t exist to validate (or invalidate) an artist. It has its own structures, body of work, and theories. It’s not about is it good or bad. That’s the kind of thinking that has led to ppl drinking raw milk.
