Curious, critical and trying to be kind. Or maybe just trying . . .

We don't 'need' to keep data forever of course. I'm sure future generations will manage remarkably well without all our inane warblings.

Sadly we are where we are. Probably caught between the devil and the deep blue sea.

But, although I loathe the coup, Labour is still the best hope we've got. 😟

The 70's certainly were a time of overzealous unions, but Thatcherism was pretty vile. No easy answers but please spare us from Kemi-ism!

Used car salesman springs to mind. Will be delighted if I'm proved wrong. But whatever, seems to me people's expectations of time required for change to occur are often completely unrealistic.

🧵 As front-page headlines go, this has to be one of the most misleading I've seen in a long time It's an out-and-out lie But notice the trick they use to get away with it...👀 *They're* not lying - they're just quoting someone else who is👍🏻 In this case, the leader of the opposition🙄 1/33
Daily Express headline:

"More Freedoms Handed to New Arrivals than British Citizens"

Express any view you like. Doesn't mean 'local' people should always get their way. The greater good needs to be taken into account too.

Not a great fan of NIMBYism across the range. Usually just comes down to those who shout loudest get their way at the expense of others whose voices are overridden.

Just fed up with crackpot labels whether re generations or other miscellaneous categories. Don't see it as a joke. Just find it devicive.

Norma Adair @normad.bsky.social · 16/09/2026
Wrong. Baby boomers are late 1940's and 1950's. Keep up. And my point still stands about absurd labelling as though everyone from a particular time period thinks the same.

Once a reporter asked him, "Do you really think you are going to change the policies of this country by standing out here alone at night in front of the White House with a candle?" A.J. Muste replied softly: "Oh I don't do this to change the country. I do this so the country won't change me.

The largest age cohort for Piddington is, apparently, Generation X. Using these ridiculous age categories just helps divide our country further.

I think we need to drop the idea of 'retired little Englanders'. This fear and loathing of 'the Other' amongst an apparently growing crowd, crosses generations.

Villages (in some areas) are like that. It is not 'the done thing' in 'polite' village society to speak openly about one's views unless they correspond with those spouted by Reform. Nimbyism is alive and well, sadly.

Norma Adair @normad.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
Would be useful if govt could find some way to tackle NIMBYism. If we seriously want to get building faster, the length of time on public consultation etc needs to be reduced dramatically.

I don't want crypto billionaires buying power and am a Labour member already. I was rather hoping that there would be ways that a Labour government could introduce laws that prevented this attack on our democracy. Becoming increasingly disillusioned by Labour by the day.

I wonder how realistic it is to assume there will be enough employers willing to commit to this. It was hard enough, back in the day, finding placements for 15 year olds, harder still to provide quality ones.
