Our research team have been having a busy few weeks catching bats. Although not the target species, it was really nice to catch up with a Whiskered bat at Ken Hill, we don't see these guys too often. (Photos Ray Ludford)

When we catch bats for research we process them as quickly as possible to minimise stress. They are also kept warm so that they are ready to fly off when they are released. Here is one of the tagged Nathusius pipistrelles from Watatunga Wildlife Reserve last night.

Great night at Watatunga, the rain held off long enough to catch common, soprano and Nathusius pipistrelles as well as Daubenton's bats and this beautiful noctule! We tagged target species with Blubat tags which give us exciting new tracking data for our research on the bats movements. 🦇

🦇 Have you ever wondered what species is that bat that visits your garden every evening during the summer? Without a bat detector it's nearly impossible to know. However, it may be possible to narrow it down to some of the more widespread species.
