So FORGOTTEN ISLAND was a blast! It was so much fun and hyperactive that I left the theater with a hangover. But more of a "GOD THAT WAS THE BEST NIGHT OF MY LIFE!" type hangover. Jo and Raissa are the best! This movie is for the Filipinos with undiagnosed ADHD.

We dragged our broken bodies to see Forgotten Island and it was great, you should see it! I always want to push for authentic emotion and relationships, and this movie has it in spades. We need more movies with heart like this. Also I laughed out loud at some of the things that got approved in this.

jo & raissa character analysis bc i cant stop thinking abt them slight spoilers ⚠️

i also keep thinking about how jo & raissa's interests reflect their journey in life. be jo is an artist, but she's "stuck" drawing only nakali creatures, she's not rly going anywhere in life with her art, hence why she works odd jobs in the fast food joint. and it really pains me bc it's sadly so relatable to a lot of artists, especially in a third world country, that it's not a viable career, so they have to do other things instead to make ends meet.

meanwhile, raissa's interests in science lead her to getting an opportunity to study abroad, and for many filipino families, going abroad is seen as a brighter future, and also to be able to provide to their families, hence why there are so many OFWs (overseas filipino workers) and immigrants in general, especially in the US, i can attest to that bc i have so many relatives who moved to the US, and a lot of my cousins can't even speak tagalog

forgotten island is on track to be a flop this weekend (for domestic which is US only i assume) and i feel so mad, my blood is boiling atp so i just wanna share this post i found on insta on the left to tell you WHY you need to see this movie plus some additional thoughts from me on the right

'FORGOTTEN ISLAND' is sadly now on track for a low $15M-$17M domestic opening weekend.
One of the worst ever for DreamWorks.

I've also seen Filipino artists and filmmakers talk about the hard reality of the cinema industry these days: at the end of the day, it is still a business. And that's one reason we continue to see adaptations, remakes, and stories based on already-established names. They come with familiarity. People already know the characters, remember the stories, and are more likely to buy a ticket because they know what they're getting.
But if we want to see more original Filipino stories, we also have to show that there is an audience for them.
We have to support the artists who take the risk of creating something new. We have to encourage people to watch, share, talk about, and recommend Filipino-made stories - especially when they are given the opportunity to reach a bigger audience.
Because original stories need more than talented people behind them. They need people willing to show up for them.
So if you've been waiting to see Filipino talent, Filipino stories, and Filipino creativity represented on a bigger stage, maybe this is one of the ways we can help make that future possible.

remember when i said before that disney refuses to greenlight filipino stories or make filipino characters in their movies. sun chaser was pitched to disney tva but it got rejected, that's why it's being produced locally instead, bc somehow studio executives refuse to give a chance to show our stories to a global audience, maybe in fear that it's not universal enough or that only filipinos will relate. we NEED to stop this kind of mentality. for so many years we've watched other countries' stories and cultures on the big screen. now it's OUR turn to shine, and people are not showing up. SHOW UP.
