nolandda @nolandda.bsky.social · 27/07/2026Some small insects will experience air as a syrupy fluid they almost swim through when flying. These folks won't experience that at their mass. But even something we call a light breeze could cause them exertion. They may have expressions about having the wind at your back, against the wind, etc. 020
nolandda @nolandda.bsky.social · 27/07/2026I would say don't sleep on "air resistance". You have weather which is part of that. But for exactly the same square cubed law reasons small things have a comparatively large surface area exposed to the air compared to both the mass holding them down and the mass providing muscle power. 120

nolandda @nolandda.bsky.social · 13/01/2026Users of RtL writing systems can simply parse 125 in the opposite order as "five and twenty and a hundred" just like we parse 16 as sixteen which is a contraction of "six and ten". I'm sure there are RtL exceptions somewhere, language is diverse, but most significant to the left is almost universal 110
nolandda @nolandda.bsky.social · 13/01/2026Thousandths are smaller than hundredths so I would expect them to go to the right for that reason just as months are smaller than years. Modern Arabic and Hebrew (both RtL writing systems) use the same numerical place order as Europe and the Americas: most significant digit on the left. 120
nolandda @nolandda.bsky.social · 13/01/2026Precisely. Years go to the left of months for exactly the same reason that thousands go to the left of hundreds. 120
