This is your occasional reminder that generative "AI" in particular could have been developed on public domain materials and/or licensed and compensated works but the major players intentionally, methodically and systemically chose to steal labor from working creative folks instead

Why didn't I try storing materials as Tool recipes any earlier? This solves the issues with editability I was having while trying to force a USD workflow.

Anyone: "Given some text, the model approximates the most likely word to follow as a function of its training data." Anthropic: "Claude takes your text, sits down, and begins to ponder the most suitable word to follow, under the solemn weight of centuries of accumulated human knowledge."

ANNOUNCEMENTS AND UPDATES! Thank you for your patience, everyone. Yes, we are back.
Hello everyone!

Sorry we’ve been gone so long, we know you all have missed us. Your support has meant a lot to us, truly.

As some of the more perceptive of you have noticed, we are back up! We need a little time to crank up the engines again, but we’re moving as fast as we can.

First, to address some concerns: No, we weren’t banned, and no we weren’t in any trouble. We paused the service ourselves, and it was always meant to be a temporary hiatus. It just took a bit longer than intended.

To put it simply, AIMod had gotten a lot bigger than anyone on the team ever thought it would. We decided that we needed to take a breather and figure out how to best address some of the concerns we’d been hearing from the community as well as implement some extensive technical overhauls.

In short, we put things on hold while we made some big changes under the hood.Updates:

In pursuit of complete transparency, we have added a ton of information to our handbook about who we are and how we work. There is also now an extensive section on AI detection for anyone who wants to know what methods we use to make our labeling choices.

We have added a query system so you can check if you have any AI labels on any post on your account, all without subscribing to the service.

Our honorable founder, @davis.social, has stepped down from their role and will no longer be taking an active role in running the service. This is an amicable departure - he just has a lot on his plate and, to be completely honest, people were being very mean to him.We are still actively updating our mute lists, a process we were in the middle of doing when we shut down ten months ago and can only be done when the service is running. Apologies again if anyone suddenly gets added to a list for a profile picture they had almost a year ago. Just send us an appeal and we will correct it ASAP.

If you are uncertain of how to file an appeal, there is a full overview in the documentation linked in our bio.

Dang. It looks like Google's SynthID watermark has been cracked.
"The breakthrough in Round 06 came from treating the Gemini app's own published failure-mode list as an attack specification:

"When an AI-generated image is part of a complex collage, layered behind other elements, or has many different textures and patterns placed over it, the detector may struggle to isolate the specific signature from the overall file." — Gemini app, SynthID detection help text

The elastic deformation stage simulates this effect at the pixel level: a smooth, low-frequency random warp field gives every ~50-pixel neighbourhood its own independent sub-pixel offset, fragmenting the watermark's spatial phase consensus without introducing any visible distortion."

Just had some Houdini licensing issues, which made me begrudgingly install the Launcher. What I didn't realize is that it's possible to keep both the local and SideFX license servers enabled, so now I have one license on the local server, and the other on SideFX's. Maybe this will be more stable.

It looks like (with caveats) Pangram is decent at identifying LLM-generated text. Unfortunately, it's too expensive, at 5¢/1k words. We need a more efficient, local solution to check and filter pretty much all text shown in the browser.

If we actually want to get serious about software we need to specify the behavior adequately to satisfy our requirements. Then we can throw the inference engines at it and not look at their output. Until then, vibe coding is dereliction of duty.

One thing we keep hearing about why LLMs can write code is that we have an objective function for determining the correctness of their output. We actually don’t! This bizarre belief is at the root of the problem with how these tools are being deployed.

Managed to connect RS Texture path properties so they can be edited with a Material Edit Properties LOP. While it works, it's a bit clunky, as it requires following a node naming convention, and adding a couple of Python LOP and RS OSL nodes at material creation.
